An Element of Suprise

I woke up and noticed it was still dark out and looked at the clock on my side table. Ugh its only six o'clock. I knew wouldn't be able to fall back asleep so I got up and picked up my gun then went to the bathroom for a shower. I turned on the shower then began to strip out of my grimy dirty clothes. As I stepped into the shower I sighed in relief. I stood there for about ten minutes just letting the hot water rinse over me. That is until I felt the water getting cooler. So I washed my hair and my body then groped outside the shower for a towel I grabbed one and wrapped it around myself as I stepped out. I then began the process of getting dressed. I pulled out a pair of old faded jeans, a ACDC T-shirt and my favorite thin leather jacket. I put that all on then stepped into my rugged old black converse.

"El are you in there?" Gwen said knocking on the door.

"Yea, I'll be just a second." I replied.

"Kk’s."

I got a brush from my bag, ran it through my unruly curls and pulled it into a high ponytail. I tucked my gun back into my waistband. Picking up my bag I opened the door and stepped into the room.

"Bathroom is free," I said rounding the short corner from the bathroom.

I looked up then dropped my bag and instantly pulled up my fists. James was standing with Gwen in a headlock. Simon was on the floor unconscious.

"You think you can beat me with just your fist Elliot," James said," how funny."

"I wasn't planning to," I said pulling my gun from my waistband.

"Really Elliot? You have restored to this kind of violence, I didn't think you would sink so low," he said sarcastically.

"Oh but I would," I replied my voice laced with ice.

"You wouldn't want to shoot your sister would you?"

He whispered in Gwen’s ear and her eyes became glazed over, just like my father's.... He let her go, and she slowly walked towards me.

"Gwen... stop this isn't you," I said backing up my gun still pointed at James.

"You're right Elliot it's not me," Gwen said in a robotic voice with a sickly smile on her face.

She got closet and closer until I was backed into a corner. ' OK Gwen in sorry for this but you will thank me later' I thought. I put my gun back into my waistband and pulled up my fist. I gave her one good punch to the jaw. She fell back onto her butt and swung her foot trying to trip me, but I jumped barely dodging it. She did one of those ninja style jumps off of the floor. Her fist up, she looked at me that creepy smile still plastered on her face. She swung at my head, she was slow so I easily dodged her punches. Simon moaned on the floor then rolled over clutching his stomach. Distracted by Simon's movement Gwen was exposed. I hit her in the stomach and as she bent over I swung my leg once again she was on her back. I took advantage of her pain and sat on her middle and slammed her head into the floor knocking her out.

"Didn't think you had it in you to hurt your sister like that," James said with a snide look in his face.

"You thought wrong," I said my voice filled with venom.

James stepped closer to me, I stepped back. He kept coming closer he stepped over Simon's body. Simons hand popped out and framed James' leg pulling him to the ground. Simon went for him, but James pulled a pistol out of the holster on his hip and pointed it at Simon. Simon got up and backed away his hands raised in defeat. Gwen rolled over and let out a soft moan her hand clutching the back of her head.

"Pass it over Elliot," James said his hand extended.

"No," I said stubbornly.

"Fine I guess we'll do this the hard way," he pulled Gwen to her feet from the floor. She was barely awake he set her facing us on her knees. James cocked his gun and put it to her head.
