When she got home, Darren was sprawled on the sofa watching TV. Kieran's eyes caught sight of a can of beer on the floor next to the remote and an empty packet of biscuits. She wondered how long he had been lying there and if he had been to bed at all.

"Hello," she called out.

"If you aren't going to say it like you mean it don't bother," he grumbled, before Kieran could reply he sat up. "Who's Rome?" he asked.

Kieran froze. A million thoughts whizzed through her head while she tried to think of a response. How the hell did he know his name? "Where did you hear about him?" she asked stalling for time.

Do not admit anything. Find out what he knows first.

She marched over to her computer and switched it on before sitting down in front of the screen.

"Does it matter?" Darren asked his eyes not leaving her face.

Kieran maintained eye contact with him as she answered, "Yes, it does matter. Did you go through my phone?" she asked glaring at him.

"Yea, I did," he finally answered.

"Why?" she asked clicking her mouse to start up her email.

"Because you were acting strange when you got back from Greece, you're still acting strange," he said as he picked up the control and flicked through the channels. "Maybe I've been acting strange because you're a paranoid control freak."

"Who is he Kieran?" Darren asked turning to look at her again.

"Someone Chan met on holiday," she lied.

"So why is he texting your phone?" Darren asked throwing the control down in frustration.

Kieran knew he knew she was lying, but he couldn't prove it.

"Because Chan didn't want him to have her number," she said shrugging. She clicked a few more times on her screen. She wasn't looking at anything in particular. She was occupying herself to make it appear less obvious that she was lying through her teeth.

"You're a lying bitch."

"Pardon?" she asked raising her eyebrows.

"You heard me. Do you expect me to believe that?"

"Yes. What exactly did you see in my phone to prove otherwise?"

"He told you to meet him at a bar."

Kieran tried her hardest not to smile. He had nothing. She had deleted all the messages Rome sent her barring one to remind her of how things had started between them. "The message was for Chantelle. I was the go-between," she said rolling her eyes for extra effect.
