Two months later, Kieran was still seeing Joshua. The feud between her and Darren continued, though they had good days intermittently. On those good days, they ended up sleeping together. For Kieran, it was an act to pacify him and their situation, or rather her guilt, and she didn't want to prove he was right about her. Further, Kieran genuinely didn't want to hurt him. They had been good friends once upon a time.

Kieran was off work, she hadn't been feeling well. Darren had been banished from the house. She had told him she didn't want him to catch whatever it was she had, but really he was irritating the hell out of her and she needed space.

"You look like shit," Chantelle greeted her when she visited. She had already had the bug, Kieran had caught it from her.

"Thanks. Makes me feel a whole lot better hearing that," Kieran grumbled as she collapsed back on the sofa.

"Glad I could help," Chantelle sat across from her.

"I do feel like shit and I've got the worst stomach ache, I think my period is due." she complained wrapping herself in a blanket.

They watched TV in silence for a few moments, while Kieran felt sorry for herself. She hated being sick.

"Erm aren't you late this month?" Chantelle suddenly asked.

Kieran shook her head dismissively "Nope, you know I'm like clockwork every month."

Chantelle was silent and focused her attention back to the TV.

Suddenly Kieran felt hot, she extricated herself from the blanket, stood up and walked over to the window to open it. Just to be sure, she was doing the calculations in her head. She froze with her hand on the window.

Chantelle must have seen the remaining colour drain from her face. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"When was your last period? I'm usually a day after you."

"I knew you were late!" Chantelle exclaimed.

"When Chan? When was it due?" Kieran asked starting to panic.

"Um....." Chantelle said "Yours should have arrived about a week ago."

"A week?" Kieran asked her eyes wide. She was never late. Never. She sat down on the sofa next to Chantelle in a daze.

"Maybe it's stress?" Chantelle said shifting in her seat.

"Shit. Chan what if I am, what then? Shit, shit, shit!" Kieran stamped her feet.

"Don't panic - yet."

"Too late. You shouldn't have opened your big mouth," Kieran groaned.
