Joshua officially moved out a week later. It had been an emotional and draining goodbye. Kieran seriously thought of stopping him. She tried to find a solution to their problem, as she heard him and Jarrell loading his belongings into the car while she sat in the bedroom. It was painful to watch. She knew though that it wasn't about what solutions she could find. Joshua didn't want to be with her anymore. It hurt her to know that she had tainted his love for her enough that he couldn't be with her without turning to drugs. Plus, he was right, she was not in love with him, she would be settling at ninety percent happy and she had promised him she wouldn't do that. So Kieran let him go. Deep down, she knew it was for the best.
Two hours after Joshua left, Kieran was still on the kitchen floor crying. She took a deep breath and got up. Her whole body was numb. She hobbled into the bedroom. Lily had snuck onto the bed and was fast asleep, she knew she wasn't allowed. Kieran was about to pick her up and put her on the floor, but she felt so miserable she curled up next to her and cried herself to sleep.
The following day, she sat at the computer flat hunting in Manhattan and couldn't believe the cost for some of them. Luckily, the company would be paying the rent, which made her happy and gave her one less thing to stress about.
As Kieran was moving to a new city, her main priority was her safety and she left the brownstone dream behind. Now she wanted an apartment with a concierge. She had three weeks before she flew out and was stuck on which one to choose out of three. She went back and forth looking at the virtual tours of different places. Her mobile rang, distracting her from property hunting and she looked down at the screen and smiled.
"Bonjour!" she said cheerfully.
"Ah, bonjour," French Fancy's deep husky voice replied.
"Ca va?" Kieran asked giggling. It was ridiculous he still had that effect on her.
"I'm well, thank you. How are you?" he asked switching to English. Kieran was relieved. She only knew a few phrases in French, and she had used two of them in the space of ten seconds.
"Not bad thanks, just apartment hunting."
"Ah, New York, Janet told me you would be leaving."
Kieran was sure he sounded happy.
"Yes, so I won't be working with you anymore" Kieran said sadly.
"Well, it's true we won't be working together in London."
"I don't understand," Kieran said frowning.
"I'm moving to New York, too."
"What?" Kieran exclaimed before she could stop herself.
He laughed.
God even his laugh is sexy.
