Chapter 44

PHOEBE'S POV

It had been 3 weeks since I flew back to Australia, three weeks since Ash and I broke up and three weeks since the accident. Basically it had been 3 week since my life changed forever. Coming back home seeing my family who I hadn't seen for almost a year, made me realise what being loved felt like. Everyone back home, my family loved me unconditionally and I loved them unconditionally. I never once had to look back over my shoulder to whether they were lying to me or not. This was something Ash and I lost somewhere down the road of our relationship. I was constantly in doubt on whether he was being faithful or not, there were even times when I was afraid to know just in case he had let me down. But my fear eventually caught up to me and drowned me with heart break.

Now that I'm back home I can finally move on and these three weeks away from him have helped me do that.

"Phoebs what do you want, burger or wrap?" Oscar asked before dialling the takeout restaurant for our late dinner.

"Surprise me" I said with a smile knowing that he would order a burger.

After a few minutes Oscar joined me on the couch and we continued to watch Pretty Little Liars, one of the only things that had kept me sane these couple of weeks.

We had only been watching for a couple of minutes when there was an abrupt knock on the door. I groaned at the thought of someone interrupting our lazy Sunday

"Oscar please get the door, I don't want to move"

"Why are you so lazy? How are we even related? I'm so athletic unlike you!" he scoffed.

"Get over yourself Oscar, just answer the door"

The knocking returned, this time much louder.

"Alright were coming" my brother yelled to whoever was on the other side.

ASH'S POV

Have you ever felt that one moment could affect you forever? Well I certainly did as I waited on the doorstep of the only girl I have ever loved and cared about. And I was terrified of being rejected.

The door opened and I looked up to see Phoebe's younger brother on the other side. I sighed, he had never liked me, this was not going to go well

He stepped out, closed the door behind him and folded his arms over his chest. I had to admit he had grown since the last time I had seen him.

"What do you want Ash?"

"Is Phoebe inside?" I questioned

"She doesn't want to see you" he spoke firmly.

"Look mate, I get you're trying to protect her but isn't it her decision" I attempted to persuade him.

"I think you should leave"

This was going nowhere with him but I had to see her. I made an attempt to push past his body and reach the door handle. Just as I leaned forward he grabbed my arm holding me still in place. I had seriously under estimated this boy's strength.

"Ash you need to leave" Oscar released my arm.

"Come on mate. Please, I need to see her and explain, I love your sister"

Oscar looked up at me with a look of pity washed over his face, "Mate she's on a date with someone else"

I should have known. Why was I so naive to believe that she would be at her house waiting for me? I couldn't even blame her. It was my fault. It was my fault she got hurt mentally and physically. It was my fault she went Australia. It was my fault she was on a date with another that wasn't me.

"Sorry Ash, but I think you should go"

"Erm yeah okay" I somehow managed to get a full sentence out.

Oscar headed back inside, leaving me outside with nothing but the broken pieces of my heart.

It was all my fault.

PHOEBE'S POV

"Who was it, you were out there for a very long time" I responded with curiosity as Oscar came back

"Just a friend" he responded quickly, "anyways have you finished watching your show or not, I want to watch Big Brother"

"Only a few minutes left" I smiled.

"Good" he said and sat back down.

...

I was interrupted from my sleep by a ringing under my pillow. I slipped my hand underneath the pillow and grabbed my phone.

Who on Earth was ringing me at 2 in the morning? I already told Harry he can't call me at ridiculous times to talk about how great Tash is. Gosh does this boy ever listen.

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and looked at the caller ID.

Private Number

If it wasn't Harry, who was it?

"Hello" I grumbled

"Hey is this Phoebe"

"Yes, why?"

"Hey it's Heath, Ash's best mate"

"Okay. Why are you ringing me?"

"Ash has passed out in a club, you gotta come get him"

"Ash is in Sydney?"

"Yes, he's smashed and he calling your name. There's a couple of paparazzi outside the nightclub waiting for him so I thought it better for me to call you instead to collect him from the back entrance. He really doesn't look great"

"Yeah okay text me the address" I pulled out my leggings and a sweater before I could even register what I was doing.

I made it to the club and was able to pull a few strings with the owner, who let me in through the back entrance. I wove through crowds of drunk people until I spotted Heath in the lounge area.

"Hey Phoebe how you doing?" He greeted me. I knew Heath fairly well but right now I wasn't in the mood for a reunion.

"I'm fine, what's going on with him?" I pointed to Ash, who was sprawled out across one of the white leather couches.

"We finally got him to shut up but earlier on he wouldn't stop calling your name. He said something about you moving on" Heath explained.

"Yeah we broke up a couple of weeks ago" I looked down, unable to hold eye contact with someone and talk about it.

"You okay?"

"Yes can we just get him into my car so I can take him home?"

"Sure" Heath and another man, who I didn't know, lifted Ash up onto their shoulders and back through the back entrance. I opened the car door and they set him down on one of the seats.

"Thanks guys" I nodded towards Ash's friends then hopped into the car.

I took one look at Ash still passed out in the seat next to me. How had it come to this? There was no way I could take him back to mine like this. I would just have to take him to his apartment.
