Ashton

*****

We were escorted out of the room and this time all of the kidnappers were downstairs. I scoffed at each of them and refused to make eye contact. They were disgusting human beings for keeping us for money.

I felt Luke push up against me when we sat down and his body was shaking at the sight of Liam. I glanced over at the strongly built man who was eyeing Luke like he was prey. His eyes traveled over to me and onto my jaw where I knew he left a huge bruise from when he hit me the night before. I looked away from him but could sense his burning stare. Luke crawled up closer and it felt nice to have his warmth against me. I pulled him even closer with my arm and held him tight because I knew he was frightened.

Niall was chatting with Zayn and Harry, while Liam continued to look at us like were were his dinner, and Louis shrunk to the far back wall playing with his fingers.

A huge weight lifted off my shoulders when Niall spoke, but it was slowly added back on.

"Boys," the blonde haired boy started casually, as if nothing happened to Luke the night before. We all knew that all the kidnappers knew what went down the night before. "Hemmings received our little video," Luke's breath hitched, and I could tell he was practically praying that his father gave them the money to get all of us out of there, "and decided to make a public appearance."

Luke grabbed onto my arm with a tight grip but I didn't really notice because I was hoping that this meant we were getting out also.

It didn't, however.

Niall's demeanor changed from casual to fuming in less than half a second and as this was a side none of us had seen before, it was safe to say we were frightened.

"And he said he fucking refused to pay! Do you know how unhappy that makes me?" Luke cried out in complete fear and before I could cover for him, Niall immediately advanced on him. "He's a pathetic loser just like his son!" Luke was wailing now, fearful of getting harmed again because his own father refused to pay our ransom and he knew he would take the blame. I couldn't imagine how Luke must have felt right then. What could possibly be a reason as to why Luke's dad wouldn't pay? We all knew he had money, and why on earth wouldn't he want his son back? His own blood?

"Pl-please, I-I don't kn-know why h-he said th-that," Luke stuttered behind his tears and whimpers.

"Really? Well, maybe after this little video he'll think a bit differently," Niall said mischievously after pressing a button on a remote he had in his hand and screams were heard on a laptop that sat open on the desk against the wall. We could clearly see Luke's face, and the camera was placed so strategically so no one could see Liam, but we knew he was there, carving the letter "C" into Luke's arm.

Luke buried his head into my chest, screaming out and crying because he hadn't realized was was being filmed the night before. I was usually cocky, but at this moment I was completely speechless.

Niall shut the video off and laughed evilly before saying, "I guess your stay will have to be elongated for the time being, now I'm off to send Daddy this little video of little Lukey crying for his mummy and daddy. Toodles!" And after a snigger from Niall, they all left without another word.

As soon as they were gone, Luke cried out, quickly apologizing for everything. "I-I'm so-so-so sorry, Ashton, wh-what am I-I gonna d-do about th-this? It-it's all m-m-my fault and y-you m-must hate m-me!" He wailed and rambled before I pulled him to my chest again and comforted him, telling him it wasn't his fault and that it'll be okay.

Michael, on the other hand, wasn't so happy. "What a fuck up! Your parents must not want you back if they refuse to pay! Who the hell is gonna get us out now?"

"Michael!" I hissed as Luke cried out louder. "What the hell? Don't make him feel worse! How do you think he must feel after he learned that his dad refused to pay to get him back? He's going to be fucking sick after all this crying! Your parents love you, or so you think, so how would you feel if you heard that your parents just said 'No, we won't pay to get our son back, he just has to fend for himself,' hm? Luke even has siblings and after what his dad said, it doesn't sound like they're doing much help! So I think you should shut up and sit your ass down because you'll just get us all in trouble again." Michael looked at me wide-eyed and followed my instructions, albeit reluctantly.

"Listen, all of you, I know it'll be shit, but we all need to cooperate as much as possible. We obviously know what those men are capable of and I do not want anyone else getting hurt, hear me? I don't know how long we will be here, but however long we need to unite and stick together because if we end up fighting it'll be much worse, alright?"

Michael and Calum nodded simultaneously and I felt Luke nod against my body. I enjoyed his warmth and it felt unbelievably satisfying having someone to hold. I felt horrible for him, and I knew at one point he would be sick from carrying the weight of his father's bigheadedness on his shoulders. If he needed anyone to go to I wanted it to be me.

We sat in silence for a while as I comforted Luke, rubbing his back and shoulders lightly. Calum had his face in his knees and Michael chose to stare at the wall.

The next three days were almost silent. The boys and I barely spoke to each other, and the kidnappers spoke to us even less. It was painful having the same routine yet luckily, none of us had been injured farther except for a few slaps or punches here and there. We were out in the morning to eat on the disgusting carpet where we sat for the rest of the day until we were forced back into the prison-like room to be watched with the cameras. It was boring and I was so eager to get back home to my friends and family. I didn't say anything to Luke, but his father was a real douchebag. I knew my parents had a lot of money, but they couldn't scrounge up two million. I knew Calum and Michael came from lower classes so their parents wouldn't be much help. What I also didn't understand was: how have the police not found any leads whatsoever? Why weren't they pounding on the door to arrest the killers?

So the same routine continued for three days until it became a week. An entire week we had been there and yet no sign of any help. And a week meant another video.
