Kimberly tapped her feet nervously as she waited for father. Her hands was shaking.
She was nervous, and angry at the same time. What will the doctor say? Will he get better or worse? She couldn't bare another bad news. This was her father, an honest man, who lived an honest life.

Oh, oh, God. Why him?

He deserves much more than what he's going through. And she was angry, so angry that she couldn't do a damn thing about his situation. Her father has been in and out of the hospital for the past months from the doctor's appointment, chemotherapy, check-ups, therapy. She could tell it was affecting him severely and his weight loss was evidence of that.

Kimberly has been with her father since the beginning of his treatments, while her mother barely made an effort to put him, first.

Flashback

She ignored the receptionist that told her not to in Dr. Austin office. She may be a respected doctor in this resident but she's a wife and mother outside this wall. And she has been failing at both for years. Kimberly had enough, she had to put an end to her mother's inconsiderate behavior.

"Do you not care?!" she barged in the office.

Her mother attempted to hid all the documents that lay on top of her desk. "Care? Of course, I care about you-"

About me? That's a first.

Kimberly cuts in. "Not me, dad."

Her mother's eyes widen but she said nothing. Her silence irrigated Kimberly. "You made a vow, for better or worse, for sickness and in health. This is it,"

"You don't understand-" her mother reasoned.

"You shouldn't have said those vows if you weren't going to do it. My father deserves so much more than you," she held her tears enough for her to leave with a brave face.

End of Flashback

After that she made very little effort in showing up when she did, she was extremely late. She was rarely never there and it took countless messages, phone calls, voicemails, and more to get her to show up.

It was exhausting to make her mother care for her husband. Kimberly wondered if her mother loved her father at all. And Kimberly didn't know if she was strong enough to be the glue that kept her family together. She was scared of losing them.

She was so thankful of the outside support that she'd from her friends and loved ones. Troy and Jacob kept her in touch with work-related issues. And Monica checks on her and even brought healthy foods for father and her.

She trying not to think about work, although working was a great stress reliever to escape the reality. Unlike her mother, Kimberly knew that she had to be here for her father and everything else can wait.

Kimberly heard footsteps and she looked up to see the doctor that has been keeping up with her father's health. She quickly got up and prepare for the worst but hoped for the best.

"H-How did it go?" she asked.

The doctor removed his glasses and gave her a warm smile. "His body is responding to treatments very well, we will keep him under our watch for a few more hours to decide where to go from there."

Kimberly sighed and her heart was finally at peace. "Thank you, doctor."

She watched the doctor returned back to the room. As she sat back down her phone buzzed and it was a message from loved ones and friends. She read and responded back thanking them, including the heartwarming message that Troy sends for her. It truly melted her heart.

Kimberly noted that she was not easy to be with, but she was so thankful to have him. Moreover, he was so supported of her attending to her father's medical situation and didn't mind that they haven't spent much time to together.
