It was just a normal mission; do the observations, sneak into the residence, kill the man and go home. Do the job and wait for the helicopter back to the Varia base. Then probably relax and spent some quality time with Squalo, before he would go to Japan for the Vongola Rings your boss wanted.
Surprisingly, you – rather easy-going and smiley person, and badmouthed assassin, got along quite well. Lussuria liked to point out quite often. You replied that you and Squalo were stuck forever since your days in high school.
The point is, the mission went terribly wrong, the target was nowhere to be seen, not where he should be. You were confused when you entered the mansion and searched through the room. The office was empty, whole residence seemed to be just too quiet. How could you make such a mistake? Your calculation were perfect, the target would get back from the charity party, he would drink his whisky and smoke cigar in his room and stay there for hours working. Like he did every day for two weeks you observed him.
Capitan Shark going be mad, you thought. Though he was with you on the mission, he had different things to do, while you were to kill the old man, he would wait outside.
You quietly searched through the building, only to find it empty. Feeling of dread shook your body and you decided to leave immediately, to hell with Squalo's angry fits. Just as your feet touched the pavement the mansion exploded. With ringing in your ears, and heat on your back, you thanked whatever god's above that you weren't inside. But your happiness was cut short, as before you stood group of trained guards and your target exiting a car.You cursed to yourself, but at least you found your target, right?
With an assassin speed you took out your weapon and readied yourself. You still couldn't hear what they were saying. With a swift move you plunged at your target. On your way you dodged the guards, killing them on spot."VOI _____! The hell are you doing?!" you heard. Ah, there he is, you smiled to yourself. Now you both were surrounded by the guards.
"Mission, what do you think?" you replied continuing your fight. Your words followed a bunch of insults from the Italian man. In the end you and Squalo stood before trembling old man.
"Please don't kill me!" the man wailed. You smirked and stepped forward. Maybe the mission would be completed and the scolding from both Xanxus and Squalo would not be too severe.
"Voii! Hurry up!" the silver-head grumbled. "It's raining."
"Yes, yes~. I thought you liked rain."
Only then you felt pang, making you lose your breath. You stumbled back feeling stinging sensation in your stomach. You touched your already wet uniform only to find red liquid on your fingers. You fell on your knees with a splash. The sniper, you thought. Blinking, you looked above, through the rain you saw your target, he was on his feet, running towards the car.
"_____!"
"Squalo... the target...," you coughed and looked around. You knew you wouldn't last long, but you had to make sure the mission would not fail. But Squalo was not running after the old man, he caught you when you were falling.
"You...!" he cursed.
''Squalo, just go."
''No! Stop talking, you idiot woman," the man growled picking you up from the ground. He tried communicate with the Varia crew but to no avail. You coughed the blood and felt tears pricking on your eyes. You smiled through clenched teeth.
"You know there are no chances for me, please...!"
He stopped. You were in the residence gardens. The one you complimented earlier, when you told him you would love someday have a garden like this. Roses surrounded you, when Squalo sat down with you in his arms. You smiled, though your vision was blurry, be it the rain or your tears.
"It would be really nice to have such a garden," you whispered through tightened throat. You met his gaze as he clasped your hands together.
"Voi," he growled. "I'll built you five times bigger garden."
"With red roses?"
"Even frigging purple if you want."
Through bloody coughs, you laughed. Your laugh was weak, as you knew you would never have such a garden. You still appreciated his words.
You always believed, you'd die alone. Your mind was fuzzy and you felt so weak and sleepy. You no longer felt cold, or pain. You moved your hand from your stomach and cupped Squalo's cheek, you smiled. You saw his pained look in the gray eyes you loved so much. He put his hand on yours.
"Squalo," you whispered with all the strength you had. "Then please make a garden for me... If... If we get reborn, then please..."
His eyes went wide.
"_____? VOOOOI. NO! DON'T YOU DARE! _____!"
Your hand slid from his cheek as you weren't able to finish. With a last thought in your mind, you faded into the darkness.
If we get reborn , then please love me as you did.
Squalo fulfilled his promise, he built a rose garden. Your grave from now onward was always surrounded by the flowers you loved so much.
