I sat inside a small shop just on the outskirts of the city. I had walked until my legs burned and my lungs burnt from lack of oxygen. "Excuse me do you have a phone I could borrow?" A girl, maybe sixteen handed me her phone as she smiled and turned away. I dialed the number fast and waited as it rung and rung.
"Hello?" A questioning voice spoke over the phone.
"Mum?"
"Louis, darling whose number are you ringin from?"her voice was cheerful in the way it always had been.
"Mum can you come get me?"
"Louis baby are you okay? Where are you?"
"Outside of town about a half mile past the old school."
"I'm on my way."I'd never felt more empty when I seen our old car pull into the now empty parking lot. She swung the door open and looked frantically around searching for me face, I tapped on the glass and she motioned she was coming in.
Soon I feel her warm arms wrapped around me and I can only sob. "My poor baby." Is all she says as she rubs the back of my hair. As I lean into her I can hear her heart beat against me and wonder if soon she may push me from her arms.
"Mum." I can barely get the words out.
"What is it darling?" I looked at her face once more because if she did hate me after I wanted to at least have a mental picture of her.
"I'm... I" cut off my sobs I can't get the words out, I'm choking on the truth and I couldn't breath.
"Come on Louis honey lets go to the car."I sat still crying in the passenger seat as she pulled over in a little parking lot secluded from the noisy London traffic."alright honey, tell me because it's tearing me apart looking at you in so much pain.
Her eyes were fixated on me,"Mum I just... I fell in love but that lov-"I choked again," it's wrong and it's vile."
I see her sigh and she takes my hand in hers,"Louis is this about a boy?" I could only nod. "Listen to me okay."
"You're human and people love people. There's nothing wrong with loving someone, no matter what anyone in this forsaken world thinks they can't live your life for you."she pauses reaching up and wiping a tear that had fell to her cheek. "If you love this boy why would you hurt him?"
"Because it's wrong, mum. Everyone says it's wrong! You'll hate me!"
She pressed her hands to my cheeks, those same hands once rocked me to sleep and healed cuts and scrapes."Oh baby, I could Never hate you. Why would you even think that?" she didn't leave me any space to talk she just hugged me tighter,"Darling please never think that."We sat in that car, the windows eventually fogging up and her laughing a little. "You know what this reminds me of lou?"
"what?" she smiles at me and places her hand over mine.
"Member when me and you drove down to the beach that one day with your sisters, but it just rained the whole time so we sat in the car. "
I couldn't help but laugh,"and we ended up playing tic tac toe on the foggy windows."
"Sometimes when I get to feelin down I think about that because I had you all with me, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Despite the rain and the fog, you all made that day so special because you all were happy." she wiped her eyes and smiles. "So tell me about this boy."
I couldn't help but blush a little and my heart skipped a beat just thinking about him, "His names Harry. I met him when I was getting me tattoo, he's so kind and real ya know? Like he doesn't care what the world thinks of him, he'll just smile and take whatever is handed to him. He's got these eyes!" She laughs, "They're absolutely breathtaking."
"Have you told him any of this? How you feel about him?"
"no" I shake my head and feel ashamed that I'm able to pour my heart out to my mother but can't even stand to tell him I like him."I'm terrified."
"Has he told you anything about his feelings?" I pulled the letter from my pocket and handed it to her.She read over the letter and smiled but she also looked at me and shook her head. "Lou, you need to talk to him."
"I know, I just I don't know." she looked at me and then she smiles and claps her hands. She starts the car and looks around to make sure she can pull onto the road.
"Where does he live?"
"Who?"
"Harry!" she exclaims.
Ten minutes ago we were speeding down the freeway and now I was standing outside his door. My nerves have definitely gotten the best of me and I don't know if I can get enough courage to knock on the door. Finally I do and I wait, waiting and waiting. I start to turn away and then the door cracks open and I hear his scratchy voice.
"Louis?"
