Liam shifted in his seat, they had all spent the night in the hospital with Harry. The sun was streaming through the open blinds as Liam watched the rest of the lads sleep. Catching the sun off of Niall’s blond locks, Liam watched the rise and fall of his chest as he drew in his steady breaths.

Suddenly his eyes opened catching Liam’s staring back at him. Liam blushed dropping his gaze to the floor as Niall continued to stare at Liam.

“Niall?” Liam whispered to him across the room, Niall didn’t speak but remained still his eyes assessing the room.

“Can we chat?” Liam asked him voice still in a whisper, Niall barely nodded before rising from his seat and moving over to Liam.

“I miss you Ni. I miss my best friend--“ Niall interrupted him.

“I don’t, I can’t just be best friends Liam don’t you see?” Niall confessed his voice shaky.

Liam dropped his head, all he had to do was tell him. Three simple words. “I love you.” It can’t be that hard to say, and yet nothing left his lips. Niall lifted Liam’s chin up with his fingers. The space between them gone as Niall stepped closer to him.

Liam ached wanting to lean towards him and kiss him, but something kept him rooted to the spot.

“Liam. I want you, so be brave and want me back.” Niall whispered before taking a step back and returning to his abandoned seat on the other side of the room. Liam watched him walk away as the tears slipped silently down his face. He covered his face with his hands quickly wiping away the tears before anyone saw.

The door to the room opened and in popped a pretty nurse with hauntingly beautiful blue eyes, Liam smiled pretending they were Niall’s but fell disappointed when he realize that they didn’t possess the same magical qualities as Niall’s. And yet for some reason Liam felt he knew those eyes, they sure looked back at him as if they knew him.

Niall’s sharp intake of breath confused Liam. He could tell Niall seemed to know the woman behind those sapphire orbs, and she smiled like an old friend, still keeping her eyes on Liam’s.

“You don’t remember me do you?” She asked Liam. Liam looked unsurely towards the Niall trying to make the connection.

“Sorry, no. Should I?” Liam confessed but still locked on her eyes.

“When you and I met it was under much different circumstances Mr. Payne—“

“Liam. It’s just Liam.” Liam interjected, making her smile again.

“Yes, I remember Liam. I haven’t forgotten your kindness.” She admitted bashfully.

Liam stared deep into her eyes, they seemed so familiar and yet he couldn’t understand why. He racked his brain as her eyes flashed through his memory. He saw her eyes look down upon him remembered the pain in them before his mind went black.

“You saved me didn’t you? You were my doctor weren’t you? I remember your eyes, they protected me.” Liam asked finally remembering where he had seen her eyes before.

“Oh no Liam, I didn’t save you. These four lads did.”

Liam looked back to the room where a sleeping Louis, Harry and Zayn snored in rhythm together, his eye caught Niall’s as they smiled to each other remembering the way they held each other all those nights ago.

“I’ll come back later then, when everyone is awake. Besides you two look like you could use some time alone…” The nurse with the pretty blue eyes winked at them and then without a second glace left the room.
