Chapter 12

1 month after Christmas, my life was beginning to feel normal.

It felt as if I was loved...that I wasn't alone in the world anymore.

I had Luke. I had Mrs. Tibbits. I had a home. I had food. I had money too.

Mrs. Tibbits had decided that Luke and I were too young to go on with our lives without being educated. So she home schooled us.

Mrs. Tibbits didn't know about what went on with me and Luke, but she did find out one day during "school". We were bored out of our minds that day, and couldn't wait to spend some time alone together, sooo when Mrs.Tibbits left the room, Luke came over to where I was sitting and kissed me quick on the lips. I giggled uncontrollably, causing Mrs. Tibbits to come see what that was all about. Too bad Luke didn't pull away quickly enough, because when she came in and saw us...she yelled,

"I knew it! I knew my looove senses weren't all out of whack just yet! You two are the most unlikely couple...but still perrrrrfect! Ooooohhhh isn't love pretty? I remember when I was young...and I met Mr. Tibbits...oh was he...." she rambled on and on, while I just kept giggling and Luke kept blushing.

That night, he finally took me to his room, which was filled with family photos that had been taken before his parents died. His room was in pretty good shape, better than mine will ever be. It felt comfortable, like you were at home. It smelled like Luke too...because of the giant pile of clothes in the corner of his room. This made me smile.

"Yeah...that?" he pointed to the mountain of clothes. "I pretty much don't do laundry until I use up my entire closet. Those are the "waiting to be cleaned" clothes." he laughed, which always made me laugh. His laugh was the kind that just made you want to join in.

Everything was clear to me now. My life, my goals, who I loved, which was unexpectingly, Luke. I wouldn't tell him that though...for a reason that still wasn't clear.

The only thing that was still a mystery in my life, was Green Street, and my mother.

Luke was the only person that knew.

And that night, he had found an answer.

"I think I know where we can find Green Street." he said as were lying on his bed after eating dinner. I looked up at him, curious.

"I've been trying to find it ever since you told me. It wrecks me that you'll always have to be wondering on and on about what was there. It was so hard to find, because it's really called Green Mountain Street. The "mountain" part on the sing has been faded away for 30 years. So, everyone calls it Green Street. But if you look at all maps, and ask all elders they'll say, "Green Mountain Street". You'll would've never guessed. It's the next steet over. We can walk there, it'll take 2 minutes." he explained to me...waiting for an answer.

I looked up at him, without thinking.

"I love you, Luke." I said with all my heart, hugging him tight crying into his chest.

"If only as much as I love you, Laura." he said, wiping the tears off of my face.

For my entire life, I've always been waiting for this moment.

When I would just know.

Know where I was, know where I was going, know that I was going there.

But the truth was, I didn't want to go.
