I woke up to the sound of music. Not just any music though. The kind of music that my mom sings at the top of her lungs while cooking breakfast.

"Ugh shut up." I mumbled to myself, putting a pillow over my face thinking, or hoping it would help.

The screeching lasted one more minute before I finally gave up and officially "woke up."

I took the pillow off my face and checked the time.

7:32

The sun had just barely started to come up and it was leaving a welcoming yellow-creme' tone to my bedroom. It looked really pretty. The perfect fall morning. If I listened closely, attempting to tune out my mothers screeching, I could even hear birds chirping.

I sighed and sat up in my bed. My mom still wouldn't stop singing. I don't even know how long she has been up, or why on earth she finds it necessary to wake up the whole town at 7:30; but I guess no one ever really knows what goes through a mother's head.

I stood up and walked over to my dresser. I grabbed my brush and brushed my hair out before heading downstairs.

"Geesh mom whats with the screaming." I said casually, walking down the stairs.

She paused her music and just kept cooking the eggs.

"What do you mean? I was just singing." She replied.

"At 7:30 in the morning?" I questioned.

"Whats wrong with that?" she said with a light laugh.

"Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that there was maybe people SLEEPING?!"

"Oh come on it's getting late. You had to get up sooner or later."

"Yeah, well I prefer later." I grumbled.

"Do you mind setting the table?"

"Sure."

I got up and walked over to the cabinets to grab some plates. I set them out on the table then grabbed some cups and silverware while my mom started to butter some toast.

"Do you want me to pour the orange juice or wait." I asked.

"You can pour it now I'm just finishing up with the toast." She replied.

"OK."

I walked over to the fridge to grab the orange juice then all of a sudden noticed something.

"Hey where's grandpa?" I asked.

All of a sudden she froze in her spot.

"Oh, right. I was kind of hoping you wouldn't notice that."

"What do you mean.... ." I asked suspiciously.

"Well something happened-"

"What exactly happened, get to the point." I replied, cutting her off.

She turned to face me fully this time; but there was something different in her facial expression.

Scared?... no not quite.

Sad.

"Last night there was an accident while your grandpa was walking around and he got hit by a car and well-"

She suddenly stopped talking, and just kind of sat there staring at me. I'm guessing it was from my reaction, because right now I didn't feel like I was alive. I felt like a part of me just died. I felt like falling on this floor and just passing out, forever. So that I wouldn't have to wake up and deal with this pain.
