"Jackie? I'm home!" I heard my mother call to me.
I quickly placed the strange object, or time machine, back in its box and put it in the bottom drawer of my dresser.
"Coming!" I quickly yelled through my door, as I pushed the drawer shut.
I opened my door and walked down the stair case and found my mom sitting at the kitchen table hovering over a few papers.
"What's up?" I asked her.
"I was just writing the newspaper submission for your grandpa about his death.." She replied, hesitantly.
"Oh... ok, did you uh, need anything?" I said, getting kind of antsy. I wanted to get back to my room.
"No, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I'm going out again tonight with Beth, we are going to go and see a movie."
"OK that's fine, I hope you two have fun."
"Do you need anyone for company? Like, do you want to maybe spend the night at Chris' house or something?"
"No I'll be fine."
"Oh, OK then. I'll be heading out in about 5 minutes."
"Okay sounds good."
Then I spun on my heel, and dashed up the stairs.
Once I got to my room, I shut the door almost instantly and ran over to my dresser. I pulled open the bottom drawer carefully, and pulled the box out. Standing up, I pushed the the drawer closed with my foot, and walked over to my bed. Setting the box down, I climbed on the bed itself and lifted the lid carefully. Right as it was open, the sunlight shining through my window hit the silver and made a small sparkle. I pulled the silver object out of the box, and set it next to me. Investigating the box more, I noticed that the bottom didn't go as deep as the box seemed. Confused, I decided to run my finger along the bottom of the box. I felt a small bump towards the middle-back, it was a latch. I flipped the latch open and pulled it down, and inside was a folded piece of paper, that seemed to be yellowing.
Nice one gramps.
I picked the paper up, and unfolded it to find... directions?
Each time you press the "up" arrow, it increases one year ahead of time you travel.
Each time you press the "down" arrow, it decreases one year behind time that you travel.
When you have found the year you want to travel to, press the "up" and "down" arrows at the same time, and it will transport you to the exact same time, day, and month you were in when you left, due to previous inconvenience not to be mentioned again.
To return home, no matter how long you stay, press the two buttons once more and you will return in the exact same spot, time, day, year and month you left at, as if nothing happened.
Enjoy!
I gulped as I folded the note back in half, sticking it in my inside pocket. Well, I was bored. My mom wouldn't be home anytime soon. Not like that mattered, time would basically freeze here. What else was better to do than this?

I figured I should probably pack, so I stood up from my bed and walked over to my closet once again. Towards the back was my old backpack from 6th or 7th grade, I couldn't remember. I grabbed that, along with a jean jacket hanging in my closet and stuffed it inside before stepping back out.
"Jackie, I am heading out now! I'll be home in a couple of hours." My mom hollered up the stairs.
"Sounds good mom, have fun!" I replied, while setting my backpack down on my bed.
I waited a few more minutes before heading downstairs, I was going to grab some food before I left just in-case I couldn't find anything from where I end up.
I packed a sandwich bag full of cheez-it crackers, a couple of granola bars, and a Gatorade. Quickly I ran back up the stairs, stuffed all my snacks into my bag, and slipped it on my back while sitting back down on my bed.
Picking it up with shaking hands, I started to press the "down" arrow, until the machine read '1940'.
Taking a deep breath, I simultaneously pressed the two buttons together, heard a faint beep, and then everything went black.

I had to take them down because they weren't written well enough. Who knows, maybe I will even update everything I have so far. Sorry again for such a short chapter! I'll make it up to you.
