Chapter 11 - Shikamaru's Interlude

"Wake up you lazy bum! You'll be late to the academy!" I heard a voice yell from downstairs. Great. Yelling first thing in the morning from my mom. I just knew today would be a great day. As I walked over for breakfast, I tripped. I stayed there for a while. My mom yelled at me again to start breakfast, and I obliged.

"Troublesome woman," I muttered under my breath only to get hit on my head.

"Say that again I dare you!" my mom called out.

I finished breakfast quickly enough, and went out onto the streets of Konoha, hands in my pockets, and in my habitual slouch.
It's been half a year since Kimura's death, and the grief was still fresh. I reached the academy after a while of walking -- early of course or else my mother would kill me.

I sat down in my usual seat, the aisle seat third down from the last row. A new student was entering the academy today, a girl apparently. What a drag. Or so I had thought.

Iruka-sensei walked in about 15 minutes after me, with everyone in their seats for once, all excited for the new student. He introduced her, a girl with raven hair and blue eyes.

Pin drop silence. I narrowed my eyes at her. It was impossible, yet she was right there. Kimura was alive.

"Her name is Himitsu Chikara. Please take care of her," Iruka-sensei said.

All of a sudden there was an uproar of noise. Words about how she should be expelled, how they could allow someone like her in the academy, but I knew better.

Shino looked like he knew as well. It seemed that he put a kikachu on her.

Hinata's byakugan was turned on as well. She knew.

Ironically enough, Sasuke didn't seem to know. It might be better off that way.

Her chakra signature was the exact same as Kimura's. Anyone chūnin and higher would know the truth.

And here I thought she had left us.

However, it was her secret to keep. If Hokage-sama hadn't said anything about it, then he must be okay with this. What a drag. What was that woman thinking! By the looks of things she wasn't wearing contacts. What was going on? This day keeps getting better and better.
