Chapter 2 - The Day Before Graduation

I walked confidently to my seat. The seat next to Hinata. Through all the years, she was the one who I could rely on, even when everyone else looked at me with hate, she looked at me like I was a person, not a monster.

“Hi Hinata-chan,” I said to her.

“Hello Himitsu-chan. H-how are you?” Through all our years, I managed to get rid of Hinata’s stutter around me. I couldn’t completely get rid of it, so sometimes, she accidently stutters.

“I’m fine, thanks for asking. How about you?” I inquired. I didn’t say that I’m good, or even great for that matter, because I really wasn’t okay. I would always be upset, and have mental trauma, but Hinata just accepts me, because she is just that awesome.

“I’m fine too.” Hinata doesn’t have a picture perfect life either. Her clan looks down on her, even though she’s supposed to be the clan’s heir.

I smiled at her, and combed my fingers through my wavy black locks, my other arm resting on the smooth wooden desk.

I had bangs now, that fell a bit higher than my eyes, so they didn’t hinder my eyesight, with two strands framing my face. I always wore blue eyeshadow, but not a lot. My top was the one that Tenten gave me. I’m actually surprised she hasn’t connected the dots yet, her of all people. I wore the standard blue issued open toed sandals that most, if not all, ninja wore. They came in blue or black.

My arm gradually got colder, absorbing the ice-cold temperature of the desk, and in turn warming that specific area a bit more.

I bit my lip, surveying my surroundings. It seemed like Naruto wasn’t here, and neither was Iruka-sensei. I took out a book and started reading it. It was called Stones. It was really good. It was a book about a girl that is taken to this magical world by her blue pendant. It’s already my 10th time reading it. I actually just started reading it, so I’m only on chapter one.

Eventually, someone grabbed the book out of my hands and started reading aloud.

“Blue. It was magic, and I certainly believed in it. It didn’t exist in this world, in my world. It was there, of course, but it didn’t belong. Everything was so plain here, so average and dull. But this stone was just the opposite. Extraordinary, beautiful, and unique.” he said. It was Kiba. He was the one who was reading the book aloud.

“Che, what a terrible book, Himitsu,” he said throwing the book behind him. I raced to get it, but Ino caught it first, and tossed it right in front of me, in the garbage can. “That’s exactly what it is,” Kiba continued, “garbage.”

I glared at him, but said nothing. They didn’t deserve to hear my voice. The only two people in the world that are allowed to hear it are me, and Hinata.

I could hear Ino, Kiba, and Sakura smirk in the background, but that was all I heard. The rest of the class was silent, not saying a word.

I willed myself not to cry, and instead stood tall. I don’t care what others think of me. The only opinion that matters to me is Hinata’s, and she believes in me.

I picked it out of the trash can, and was thankful that the only things in the garbage can were paper, and Chōji’s chip bags. I shook my book out to get rid of any crumbs.

I walked dignified back to my seat, and took a deep breath. I sat down, and kept reading.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kiba’s smirk fade, and he went back to his seat, muttering obscenities about me.
