Chapter 4 - Picture Day

I was allowed out of the hospital only once, and that was to get my picture. I got a relatively nice photo, so I was happy, but then I had to go back to the hospital, and hospitals are boring. Some random nurse took my ninja registration form, and handed it to the Hokage.

The door opened, and I saw Hinata. “Hi!” I said.

“H-hi!” she replied. “Are you feeling okay?”

“Yeah, I’m perfectly fine, I don’t know why the doctor insists I stay.”

“It’s probably for your own health.”

“Yeah, it probably is. So, you over Naruto yet?”

“I am,” she replied in an even tone, “if he doesn’t even notice me, then why should  I let him rule my life?”

“Good girl, you’re finally growing up!” I tell her. “Go ahead and be friends with him, but if he doesn’t like you that way, than be happy with your other friends, like me, and your new team.”

“Thanks!” she says. “What team do you think we’ll be on?”

“Well, I think you will be with Kiba and Shino, so you can easily form a tracking team. Ino-Shika-Chō is an old formation, and is what will probably happen for Ino, Shikamaru, and Chōji. It’s also tradition to put the dead last with the rookie of the year and the kunoichi of the year, so that would be Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.”

        “What about you?”

“Me? I’ll be put on the team that’s destined to fail. I’ll be with the other two misfits in the other classes.”

        “But that’s not fair! Y-you’re an awesome k-kunoichi! I-if anything, I shouldn’t pass!”

“Hinata! Don’t doubt yourself like that! You’re a great kunoichi too! All you have to be is yourself!”

        “But what about K-kiba?”

        “What about him?”

“I’m not blind Himitsu! I know that both of you hate each other’s guts! Are you really okay with me being his friend?”

“What kind of friend would I be if I denied you the right to be friends with anyone you wanted? I’ll be fine!”

“But you don’t deserve it! You’re nothing but kind, and no one even appreciates you for it!”

“Hinata,” I say softly, “anyone can be kind when someone else is looking, or to get attention, but it takes someone truly strong to be kind when no one is watching. It might not be fair, but it’s my life, and I’ve accepted it, ya know? Besides, how will I end the cycle of hatred, and protect everyone, whether I love them or I hate them, if I’m not nice in the first place?”

“Okay Himitsu, but promise me one thing,” she said.

        “What?”

“Don’t let them bully you anymore.”

        “Okay.”

Hinata left, and I was bored in the hospital again. I filled out some paperwork, and then I was released from the dreaded white room.

I arrived home, and took off all my bandages. It was already night, so I decided to take a walk around Konoha. I walked lazily around the village.

I spotted Tenten training with her weapons. I haven’t seen her since the day of my funeral.

I walked over to her. I stood in front of her, when she was about to hit me with a bunch of kunai. I jumped over them, and let gravity pull me down. I waved at her.

“Hi?” She looked confused for a moment, and then recognized me. She snapped her fingers. “Right! You’re the girl who’s mute!” I shook my head, no.

“No? You’re not mute? Then why won’t you speak?”

        I held up thirteen fingers.

“Thirteen words? Are we playing charades now?”

        I nodded my head.

“Why can’t you just tell me, or better yet, write it out?”

I weighed my options carefully, before deciding just to outright tell her. “Because I only trust the people who are nice to hear my voice.”

“That is a very good reason. Well then, I’m glad you trust me enough.”

“My name is Himitsu, what’s your’s?”

        “Tenten.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, are you a weapons mistress?”

        “I am actually, why?”

“Well, I was thinking if you knew any fire style jutsu.”

        “No, why?”

“If you ever faced a wind user with any decent skill, you would be at a severe disadvantage.”

        “You’re right! Thanks!”

        “Your welcome I guess.”

“If you need help with anything, just let me know, and I’ll try my best to help out. Bye!”

“Same here. Bye!” I continued my walk. That was a very… short meeting. I guess even one of my best friends can’t bear to look at me, since I look so much like my old self, I thought.

I walked home, and went to bed, only to fall asleep.

I dreamt that I was Kimura again.

Author's note - Wow, two chapters in one day! I'm aiming for a third, but don't be too disapointed if I don't have enough time.
