Reader's POV
The mission was already off to a bad start. You were stuck on the mission with Kanda, the black cloud of the Black Order. True, he could be depressing with his blunt attitude and his dark and brooding nature, but you sort of liked him (some people might call you a masochist).
The mission was rather... difficult... at the beginning. The mission was in Romania. You didn't have anything against Romania; in fact, you found the place quite interesting because of the culture. The only thing that ruined your experience?
Well...
"Kanda, will you just relax? It's Halloween. You might as well get used to it." You told him as you passed a group of, as Kanda put it, rampaging juvenile delinquents in costumes, giggling and squealing over the candy they had collected. "Tch." Kanda scoffed. "The brats are running around in costumes and screaming. I don't see how these people can stand it." You raised an eyebrow at the tsundere exorcist. "I'm guessing you never got the chance to go trick-or-treating as a kid." You walked a few more steps before realizing that Kanda wasn't walking with you anymore. You turned around and looked at him. He looked a little saddened. 'I think I brought up a sore subject.' You thought, sadly. You cleared your throat a little and walked up to face him. "Kanda, I--"
"It's fine." He growled slightly. Kanda then pushed past you. "Let's just find the Innocence and be on our way." Kanda walked away from you, and you turned and tried to keep up with his long and quick strides.
However, you lost sight of him. As you looked around, you felt someone grab your hand. You turned to see an old woman wearing tattered clothes and antique looking jewelry. She looked at you, one eye dead and the other a foreboding dark brown. "Beware, young miss, of the curse." You looked at her with curious eyes, your interest piqued. The old woman continued, pushing a small cluster of stalks and flowers tied together with black twine into your palm. The small cluster had a long thin strap of leather that looked like it was meant to be worn around the neck. "A man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon shines bright." You look at the object in your hand. The woman wrapped your fingers around it. "Keep this with you, deary, lest you want the beast to make you his bride." You looked at her. 'His... brid--?'
"Oi, On'na!" You heard Kanda yell at you, interrupting your train of thought. You turned to see him coming towards you and them you looked back at the old woman, but only to find that she had disappeared. 'Creepy.' You thought as you slipped the charm imto ypur pocket. Suddenly, Kanda grabbed your wrist in his vice grip of a hand. "Don't go running off like that. Do you intend to try my patience?"
His cold tone ticked you off and frightened you off at the same time. "Says the temper-mental, demon samurai who intentionally left me behind!" You snapped at him. "It's not my fault that you're short." Kanda scoffed at you. (Insert "slow" instead of "short" if you're tall, dear reader)
You growled slightly. "Let's just get the Innocence so you'll stop complaining." You shook his grip from your hand and brushed past him.
((Timeskip brought to you by Lavi and the old Panda. Haha))
It wasn't long until you and Kanda found the Innocence you were sent to collect, but the strange the was that there wasn't any Akuma anywhere. You two were on your way back to the town, but stopped. You felt sort of... off. "Kanda, something isn't right." You look at Kanda to see that he had already put his hand on his Mugen. "I know." It was silent, but not a moment later, a terrifying yet lonely how pierced the silence, and in the darkness, a pair of golden eyes appeared. The form of the eyes soon appeared in moonlight, and it was the form of a beast similar to that the old woman had mentioned to you. A massive black wolf. It bared its teeth at you and it started running towards you.
"(Y/N)!"
Your name being shouted was the only thing you heard before you were pushed out of the wolf's path. You landed on your side. Your head snapped back at the sound of a heart wrenching wrong. You saw the beast pinning Kanda to the ground, the wolf's teeth lodged in his neck and his sword sticking through the beast's chest. "Kanda!" You screamed in panic and ran to Kanda's side. With all your strength, you pushed the beastly wolf corpse off of him.
Kanda was covered in blood, especially on his neck, and to even further your panic, he wasn't responding to you. "Kanda?" You frantically shook his shoulder. You put your ear to his chest, checking for his pulse. You heard a faint thump-thump. "There's a pulse. You're still alive."
"Of course, I'm still alive, Baka." Kanda grunted in response.
You sighed. "Injured and you still have an attitude. Nice to see that you haven't lost that." You said sarcastically.
You look back at the wolf corpse; Kanda's sword was still sticking through its chest and out the other side. You grabbed the hilt of Mugen and, with much more effort than you expected, you pulled the sword out of the cold corpse. You return Mugen to its sheath and helped the stubborn samurai to the feet to his feet. You flung his arm over your shoulder.
After you returned to the town, you immediately took Kanda to the hospital to get the wound on his neck cleaned and dressed. You watched Kanda as he quietly let the nurse dress his wounds and stuck your hands into your pockets That was when you felt the old woman's charm. Then the old woman's warning came to your mind.
'Beware of the curse. A man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon shines bright.'
You think about the old woman's last words before she disappeared into shadows. 'Keep it with you at all times, lest you want the beast to make you his bride.' You thought on the warnings and then you pictured the wolf. You then looked at Kanda. 'A man who's pure of heart and says his prayers by night... may become a wolf?' Kanda had been bitten by the beast. A cold chill ran up your spine. 'Was the beast that bit Kanda... a...?'
