Prologue
"Mom, Mom I'm gonna be fine. I'm a big girl now I can take care of myself." I whined at my mom as she tried to fix my hair once more. "Honey just let me be worried about my little girl moving away!" She licked her thumb and wiped my face while I cringed back. "Mom there's nothing there, I haven't even eaten yet." I protested. Ignoring me my mom clamped her hand on the back of my head and forcing me to stay still while she wiped my face. "David where are you with the last box. You need to leave so she gets there before dark!" she yelled at my 24 year old big brother. "Yeah yeah I'm coming its not like I need help or anything." he replied back. "Aw, is the big man getting tired." I taunted. "Yes of you!" he said while piling the last box into the moving van. "Ok don't text and drive and stop at all red lights and if you get a ticket I will not allow you to move!" She threatened. "Fine fine I get the message don't have a heart attack." I put my hands up in surrender. She grabbed my hands and put them around her waist hugging me. "I love you more than anything in the world." she whispered in my ear releasing me from the embrace. "I love you to mom. I hope you understand that but I really do need to move away from here." I explained, feeling the tears forming in my eyes. I hoped in my baby blue Volkswagen bug and waved goodbye pushing back the tears. I pulled out of the driveway following the u- haul away from the one and only home I've ever lived in.
