Chapter 1: Three Years Later

I wrapped my wrist with a bandaid after Gracen was finished feeding. He grabbed my arm tightly. I was feeling light headed and tried to conceal my uneasiness.

"You better have the study cleaned and ready for tonight. I am having a very important guest over. He only drinks from the vein, so you better be ready to serve another meal tonight." I nodded and walked out.

Gracen has been a vampire since before I started to work for the Callow house hold 3 years ago. At first he was kind and never drank to much. But now that he is more comfortable he takes as much as he wants when ever. Sometimes he would wake me up in the middle of the night, for a late night snack.

I never complained because I loved working at this house, and I also feared what Gracen would do if told on him to his mother. He was bigger than me, faster than me, and he was a vampire. Ms. Callow loved her son, even though he became a blood sucking monster.

I walked into Ms. Callow's room, it was time to dress her and ready her for breakfast. I slowly woke her up as I usually did, and picked out her favorite friday outfit. She had three outfits for everyday of the week, so she never wore the same thing 2 weeks in a row.As usual she asked how I was doing and asked if Gracen was drinking fairly, not taking to much.

"Of course he is being reasonable with feeding. Why wouldn't he be?" It was the same answer I always gave her. I never thought she really noticed.

"Well you just tell me if he starts getting greedy." I nodded my head and gave her a small smile.

I went about the day as any other friday. I cooked Ms. Callow her oatmeal with blue berries and bananas, with 1 teaspoon of honey. Then I poured her her glass of water to take her medicine. She ate her breakfast at 9 am and finished at 9:15 am, as usual. Then I took out her medicine and sorted out the arrangement of pills.

For fridays her arrangement of medicine consisted of 2 blue pills, 1 reddish pill, 1 small white pill, 2 teaspoons of the reached smelling white liquid, and a 3 milliliter injection. All the medicines were for a different thing. I had been noticing a worsening in her health, I would set up an appointment with Dr. Werefeild. He has been Ms. Callow's doctor for 10 years.

There was a routine in the household, for everyday,  every hour, and evert minute. There was a specific way that things needed to be done. For instance, when making oatmeal you use these ingredients in this order: 1. 11/2 cups of farm fresh oatmeal sold at the market every thursday, 2. 3/4 cup of water boiled to 115 degrees, 3. add 1/8 cup of fresh milk, 4. gently stir for 45 seconds, 5. while stirring mix in 1 teaspoon of honey, 6. lightly top with 4 plump blueberries and 4 slices of banana, cut to 4 cm thick. And that is the proper way to make oatmeal.

I love working at this home because I have someone that loves me and cares for me, I also have something to do everyday. I am never bored in the Callow house.

--- 8:45 pm. ---

I finished cleaning the study and was reading myself for another meal. I hated it when Gracen drank from me. I felt so weak after words, light headed, faint. I would not feel well after having 2 vampires drink from me, the same day that Gracen had had a large meal from me.

I drank some water and ate my dinner. Because today was friday I cooked roast beaf, steamed carrots and mashed potatoes. I made it the same as I always did and served it the same way I always had. I loved routine, so easy to follow and remember.

I hated that tonight was not going to be a normal friday.

I sat at the dining table and cleared my plate. When I washed it off and placed it back in the cupboard I checked the clock and was not pleased to see that the time was now 9 o'clock. I was sure that I would be up late, tending to the 2 vampires.

I heard a knock at the door and walked over to answer it. When I opened the door I stood in awe at the beautiful man standing in front of me. He was much taller then I was and had broad shoulders. He was finely dressed in tailored black suit. His cheek bones were prominent in the low lighting. He had silver eyes with red flecks in them, much like Gracen. But there was something to this mans eyes that were captivating and safe.

"Good evening sir, how may I assist you?" He looked me in the eyes and gave a humble smile.

"I am here to meet with Gracen Callow. Is he near?" I gave him a simple nod.

"Yes, please come in." I ushered him inside and met his gaze once more. "I will fetch Mr. Callow for you. If you can wait here for a moment." I gestured inside to the foyer.

I went to turn and walk to Gracen's room, but my path was blocked. I looked up and saw that it was Gracen standing in front of me. He was finely dressed as well. The suit he was wearing was one I had never seen on him before.

"Ms. Nightingale is the study ready for me?"

I nodded my head slowly,"Yes Mr. Callow."

"Very good. My associate and I will be discussing important matters, you are not to disturb us for any reason. I will summon you when we are ready to feed. Do you understand?" He had a threatening tone to his voice and with fear running through me I silently nodded.

"Very good."

And with that they walked up the stairs and I could here the door to the study close.
