Chapter 2
I waited in my room, trying to sleep while the 2 vampires conversed. I couldn't seem to relax though. Every time I closed my eyes there was the new vampires face. He eyes just staring and piercing mine. I couldn't explain it if I tried, but there was a sort of pull towards him. I kept feeling the need to be near him.
I couldn't decide if this feeling was good or not. I had never really felt this way before.
Was this Love?
I had never experienced this emotion before, or at least real love. I loved Ms. Callow, but in a family sort of way. This was different.
Ring Ring The sound of the bell was faint but I could still hear it. I got out of the bed and slipped my flats back on. I had not changed my clothes. I walked to the bathroom and washed my arms and hands. When I finished drying my arms I walked out of the bathroom and to the door to the hallway. I stepped out into the hallway and walked quietly to the study, which paralleled the stairs.
Knock Knock I heard the muffled "come in" from the other side of the door. I turned the brass handle and pushed the door lightly open. The hinges gave a small squeak.
"Thank you Ms. Nightingale. Please come over, we are feeling a bit peckish." Gracen said, turning his attention from his acquaintance.
"Yes sir." I walked over and sat in the chair in between the 2 of them.
"Ms. Nightingale, may ask your full name." I was taken back by his question.
"Eden, Eden Nightingale." I answered, looking him in the eyes. I felt a warmth serge from heart. I felt the comfort and safety once more.
I retreated my gaze and stared at the floor. I studied the hard wood, trying to find spots that I may have missed whilst I was cleaning today.
"Eden are you ready?" His voice was soft and well meaning, It was like velvet.
"Yes sir." I answered, preparing myself for the sharp pain that would be coming soon.
"Eden please don't call me sir any more. Call me Elisha, Elisha Bloodgood." How ironic I thought, the last name of a vampire having the word blood in it.
"Indeed it is ironic. The last name of a vampire having the word blood in it." I was shocked, can he read my thoughts?
"Yes Eden I can read your thoughts." I was taken back and was about to say something but was interrupted by Gracen.
"Prince we should eat now." Prince?
"You are right Gracen." They each took hold of my wrists and I sat up straighter.
Elisha was first to bite into me. I waited for the pain that usually came with the bite, but it didn't come. Or at least not until Gracen bit into my wrist. I was confused at why Elisha's bite didn't hurt, it actually felt good.
They started to suck at my skin and I could feel the flow of blood escape my skin. I lost track of how much time had gone by. It felt like for ever and I was starting to feel weak. My head was spinning and a head ache was forming in my temples. My vision was growing blurry and my eye lids felt heavy. I couldn't help the feeling of sleepiness fall over me. My eyes flickered shut and I blacked out.
(Elisha's POV)
The second I bit into her wrist, a feeling of true bliss filled me. I knew I wouldn't be able to control myself. I tried to pull my mouth away for even a second and was greeted by failure. I lost track of time while I was drinking from her.
Usually it was easy to pull away from my meals, but she was like a drug. I just kept wanting more and more.
I could feel her body relax and I looked up at her face, she passed out. Oh no we drank too much, she could die. I quickly released from my tight hold on her.
"Gracen release now." He looked at me with confused eyes, but did as I commanded and sat back against his chair. He had a mess of her blood smeared across his face, he wiped it off with the back of his hand.
"Gracen I want her. She will work for me." I thought about what to say next. "Tonight I will stay the night here. I want to speak with Eden in the morning. I want to offer her a job." I stood up and looked down at her sleeping body.
I bent down and picked her up into my arms. Her head rested on my chest and I could feel the tickle of her breath touch my face. She cuddled closer to me and I could hear her heart beat.
"I will take her to bed. Where is her room?"
"Down the hall to the right, second door on the left." I nodded and walked out.
When I was at her door I turned the knob and walked inside. I could see her bed from the hallways dim glow. I walked over to the bed and laid her down gently. I took off her shoes and set them in the closet on the other side of the room. When I came back I saw the blood stains on her white sheets. Her wrists were still bleeding. I went to the bathroom and grabbed some gauze and tape.
I wrapped up her wrists and took the medical supplies back to their original spots. Everything was super neat and tidy.
I love neat and tidy. I love things with systems and procedure. It just makes life so much easier.
I walked over to the bed and sat on the edge, she looked so pale and faint. We drank to much from her.
Thump Thump...
Wait! Where did her heart beat go? I bent down and listened again
...
Nothing! Oh god we killed her! I bit into my wrist until blood started to trickle out of the wound. I knew it would close quickly so I took a bunch in my mouth. I bent down to her face, inches from her mouth. I lightly touched our lips together and let the blood trickle from my mouth to hers.
I waited for what felt like ages, which were actually seconds. And then her eyes flickered to life and I released my lips. She tried to sit up, but I forced back on her shoulders.
I cleared my throat,"Please just lay down and rest for now. I will be staying the night and I hope to speak to you in the morning. But for now just sleep." I looked her the eyes when I said this. When our eyes met it felt warm and welcoming, and safe. I wanted to stay like this forever. But she needed to rest.
"Goodnight Ms. Eden. Till tomorrow." I sat up slowly and grabbed her hand. I placed a small kiss on the back of her hand, then set it lightly back onto the bed.
I watched as her eyes closed and sound of her heart and her breath filled the entire room. I walked to the door and stepped into the hall. The door squeaked as I shut it and I flinched at the sound.
I walked down the hall and into the study where we had originally sat. Gracen still sat in his chair, now reading a book with the title "The Complete Works of Edgar Alan Poe". It was an old book that was falling apart at the seems. It was a dark brown and had black spots all over it. It appeared to be burnt.
"Eagerly I wished the Morrow..." He drifted off continuing his book. I recognized the line.
"The raven, a fine choice. And what might you mean by that line? Are you suggesting that I can not wait till the morrow, or is there another meaning to the directness of that line?" He looked up and set the book down. Slowly he stood up and shut the door behind me.
"Elisha, I mean nothing of insult to you, but it seems you are smitten for Ms. Nightingale. She is a lovely lady by all means, but she is merely human. Surely your parents want you to marry a vampire girl of high ranking. At least someone who knows about the royal family."
"She doesn't know about the royal family? Have you no told her about the vampire world?"
"I didn't think she needed to know."
"It's ok I guess. I just thought she would have been curious about our world, even a little."
"Yah she never really asked me anything."
"very interesting."
I walked down the hall and to her room. I couldn't wait till the morning. I wanted to open the door, but something inside me told me to wait till morning.
I slid down the wall and closed my eyes. And for the first time in over 300 years, I slept.
And dreamed.
