Jessica

I wait for a response from Calum. Nothing. What am I supposed to do? Everything just went poof in a matter of a couple minutes. Why does this happen to me? Why?
"Jessica, breakfast!" Reece pounds on my door.
"Uh coming!" I say back. I try not to sound like I've been crying. I put my phone down and just stare at the wall for a minute before getting up and going back downstairs. Is my nose red? Are there tear stains on my cheek?
"Are you okay?" Mom asks.
"Fine." I fake a smile and sit at my spot. I just stare at the food and zone out. The voices of my parents chatting are fading and the edges around my vision start to blacken. I know what's going to happen.

I wake up in my room. They didn't call the ambulance, good. I mean, the last time I fainted, nothing happened. Right? Did something happen? Wait.. Why did I faint last time?
I look to my side and see Mom and Dad watching me.
"Jessica! What happened?" Mom rushes over once she sees that I'm awake.
"I just fainted, nothing too bad."
"It's happening again." I hear my dad whisper. Mom looks back and stares at him.
"What's happening again?" I ask. I look at Dad and then back to Mom. No one answers. "Guys!" I start to sit up.
"You're trying to forget." Dad mumbles.
"What am I trying to forget?" Nothing bad happened.. I was just on a little lunch with Nate last time I fainted and the last thing I remember before that is my birthday party. Lucy had gotten me earbuds and a case. Rylie.. What had Rylie gotten me?
"We're not sure.." Mom says slowly. I can't tell if she's hesitating or not.
"Okay.. Um well, I'm fine so.. No need to worry about me." I pull away the covers that were over me and stand up. I walk downstairs and see Reece. He's playing with Jake.
"Jess, you okay?" He gets up and walks over to me.
"I'm fine, I promise." I answer. I watch Reece look behind me so I do too. Mom and Dad are coming down too. They go past me and straight to Reece to whisper something to him. He nods.
"Hey Jess, wanna go play on the streets?" He asks. I look at him with confusion on my face. "I meant perform."
"Oh, sure?" I shrug. "Are we taking your car or are we just gonna walk around until we find a spot?
"I'll drive. Let me get my guitar." I nod and walk over to Jake while I wait. I pick him up. "Hi Jakey, how are you?"
"Good, why did Jessie fall?" He asks.
"Something just happened, it's okay." I assure him.
"You fell a lot before too."
"I did?.." I ask. Dad said I was trying to forget again, what am I trying to forget? I remember my phone's upstairs so I put Jake down and run up to get it. I put it in my pocket and go back downstairs. Reece is ready.
"Let's go." He says. I follow him out the door and take my seat in the car. I pull out my phone and check if I have any notifications. A couple new texts from a person named Calum. Who's that? Looks like a familiar name.
"Reece? Who's Calum?" I ask. He starts backing the car out.
"Your friend." He answers quickly.
"Okay.." I stare at him and he keeps his focus on the road. I read the texts from this Calum.
Calum: jessica
Calum: you still there?
Calum: text me when ur back.
I read the previous messages. What's this? Woah, what happened? He must've been a special friend. I start typing something.
"Who you chatting to?" Reece asks.
"Uhh.. Calum." I answer, continuing to type. Reece slaps my phone out of my hand and it falls to the car floor. He pulls aside and gets it before I do.
"What was that for?!" I exclaim.
"You can't use your phone or you'll faint more." He says, putting the phone on his doorside. He pulls back onto the highway and starts driving somewhere. I sigh and watch the cars pass us. I watch us pass the cars as we start going too.

I wait at for Reece to get his guitar. Waterfront Park, that's where we're gonna perform. I haven't done this in a while.
"You ready?" He sits next to me on the bench and takes the guitar out of the case.
"Not really." I mumble.
"You'll be fine. What song?"
"Um.. This one song called Amnesia. I don't remember who it's by but it's been stuck in my head for a while." It's like a song about forgetting. Or wanting to forget.
"Okay, let me get the chords." He strums his guitar and hums. I wait until he finishes. "Done. Ready?"
I nod and let Reece start playing. I start to sing.
I drove by all the places you used to hang out getting wasted.
My voice is shaky.
I thought about our last kiss, how it felt, the way you tasted.
And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine,
Are you somewhat feeling lonely even though he's right beside you.
When he says those words that hurt you do you read the ones I wrote you.I start getting stronger as people gather around Reece and I. Some pull out their phones and others just watch.
Sometimes I start to wonder was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?'Cause I'm not fine at all.
That line really hit me. I don't know why, but it did. Did it have some meaning to it?
Am I okay?
