A/N: Sorry it's been a while and this chapter is quite short but there should be another update on Saturday!!
In the morning I woke up to see that I used Donnie's lap as a pillow for a couple hours, I didn't really sleep much since I stayed up reading to Donnie instead of continuing to whine and complain about my love life.
I changed and headed to the shop earlier than normal, I owe David an apology for ditching all day yesterday.
I sip on my coffee as I unlock the shop, I manage to put away all the books and clean up the shop a little before David and Sharon surface from their flat. Sharon is awfully pale and her warm glow has dimmed but her familiar cheery self seems to still be around.
"Dear child, you look worst than I do. I don't think those black circles under your eyes are very attractive these days." Sharon chuckles lightly which turns into a coughing fit.
"Woah, steady there." David smiles as he holds his wife by her elbow but I spot the concern in his eyes.
"David, Sharon. I'm truly sorry about yesterday." I apologise to them as I can't hold it in much longer.
"It's fine, you had to help out your friend, he was in trouble. Any normal person would've done the same. We didn't have many customers anyway." David brushes my behaviour off his shoulder, I smile in thanks but the guilt still lingers. It's not like I lied, Donnie did need my help.
"Can you give Cleo and I a moment, sweetie?" Sharon squeezes David's hand, David kisses his wife's forehead and nods his head. The sight warms my heart.
"I'll go sit at our bench." David exits the shop and walks across the road to an old looking bench.
"Honey, listen, I want you to finish early today, no matter what the old grump over there thinks. You look so pale, have you eaten? You can't just survive on coffee you know." Sharon holds my hand as she speaks, it's nice to know someone cares for my health. It's been a while since I had this.
"Thank you Sharon but I'm fine. It's just I ran into George yesterday and things didn't really go well." I grit my teeth to hide the fact that the mention of George makes me want to scream.
"Oh. I see. Look, listen here. Men are not everything, Cleo. Yes, they're useful and have their purpose and when you find a really good one I'm sure you'll realise how good some men can be. But right now, you're letting your whole, life reveille around this boy. I understand what happened between you two and maybe one day you two can reunite but right now all you need is you. You need to get some decent food down your throat and you need a hot bath to relax you. I telling you this because I care for you, sweetheart. David cares for ya too. I just hate seeing you beat yourself up over something that isn't your fault." Sharon confronts me, she keeps her eyes locked on mine the whole time.
"You're right. You're right, I'm sorry. I have bigger things to deal with than some boy." I don't believe a word coming out of my mouth, it's different if it were just boy problems but it's not. It's deeper than that, it's family.
"Exactly. Now, we won't be back until later cause I have an appointment but when it's your lunch break..." Sharon scribbles something down on a piece of paper. "I want you to visit this restaurant. Best food in the whole of England." Sharon winks at me, handing me the note.
"Thank you, Sharon." I press my lips against her cheek as she weakly embraces me.
I watch her leave with David, they sit on their bench for a few brief moments before apperating off somewhere. When my lunch comes around, I lock up the shop only to turn around to come face to face with Donnie.
"Where to?" He asks, holding out his arm graciously. But I notice the mischievousness in his eyes.
"Here." I hand him the note where the restaurant name is written down and he smiles.
"I 'aven't been here since I was little." He apperates to the front doors that's when I notice, it's a normal muggle restaurant. "You first." Donnie opens the door and holds it for me.
"Donnie, why are you acting so weird and cheery?" I narrow my eyes at the boy. Something is up.
"Nothing, pet. Just the fact that the plan for our newest job is finally finished and I have all the men to do the job. All the men expect one." Donnie wiggles his eyebrows at me, I groan aloud and roll my eyes.
"I don't know Donnie..." I sit down at the table Donnie gets us and hide my face with the menu.
"C'mon. It's just one lil' job. We go in, grab the guy, grab the papers 'e owes our current employer and then 'and 'im over. Piece of cake." Donnie stuffs a bread roll in his gob and smiles over at me.
A sudden flash of Fred and George stuffing his face with potatoes on Christmas comes to mind. I frown and shake the memory from my head, luckily Donnie doesn't notice.
"You say it like snatching another wizard is easy." I stare flatly at the man from behind my menu. Donnie chortles quietly and leans towards me.
"That's because it is, darlin'. Now what ya 'aving? I'm starved." Donnie snatches the menu from my hands and scans it over.
During lunch Donnie tried to avoid all talk about the previous night or anything about George or the Weasleys. He filled me in on what would be happening on our next job and how I must play my part. Basically I'm the distraction.
So after work, Sharon came back just as I began locking up. David told me everything went fine but Sharon seemed a bit distant as she went straight back upstairs.
My stomach twisted at the sight but Donnie's spontaneous arrival made me startled me so I forgot about what I was previously thinking about.
"So this is it?" I ask, looking up at the large Manor House.
"Yup." Donnie folds his arm across his chest and nods his head.
"Why do all these guys live in large creepy places like this? Honestly can't a wizard live in a small cottage in the middle of no where?" I think aloud which causes an eruption of laughter from Donnie.
"Because all these men are rich bastards who think they can only live in places like this." Donnie hands me a letter and sends me towards the front door.
I'm supposed to distract our man long enough for the snatchers to see if the paperwork they need is there before attacking the wizard. Apparently he's very strong so taking him down first means he wouldn't as use to us. We aren't allowed to return without the paperwork but Donnie says the man can escape us within three minutes so they have to find the papers first.
I tap my wand to my head and change the colour of my hair temporarily, I can't have him recognising me.
As I knock on the door, I put on my acting face, and when the door opens I fall forwards, fake fainting.
The man rushes forward grabbing hold of me before I can hit the floor.
"My goodness! What's wrong?!" He seems surprised to have visitors, especially one who just fell on him in the doorway.
"My mother...told me...to give you this personally." I fake a strain on my voice as my shaky hand hands him the letter.
The man sits me down against the front door, sending one of his house elves away to fetch me some water before opening the letter.
I notice behind him Donnie holding up some paper, and giving me a thumbs up.
"Wait!" I reach for the man, he leans down, stopping himself from reading the letter to pay attention to me. I beckon him closer with my spare hand while my other cautiously reaches for my wand.
The wizard gets so close I can feel his breath by my ear.
"Stupefy." I whisper, aiming my wand at him.
The man bounces back, falling unconscious. Within seconds three snatchers reveal themselves and pounce onto the man. Disapperating almost immediately.
I get back to my feet and look around. The air suddenly becomes very cold. The sky darkens outside.
"Cleo! Cleo!" Donnie's voice is heard but I can't see him anywhere as I run into the house.
"Donnie!" I call after him.
Goosebumps spiral over my skin and up my neck. I slowly turn on the heels of my feet to come face to face with a dementor.
I try to use my patronus but fail.
I feel someone grab my arm and pull me from the house.
It was a snatcher I'd seen a few times before but never actually spoken to.
"Run!" He tells me as he runs for himself.
The difference is I can't move. The sight of around thirty dementors sends chills so far in me, my rib cage shivers.
I stagger back out onto a public street when the dementor flies closer to me, hovering above my face.
As I feel all energy escape me, I find myself staring at a dead Fred. The image of him was when I first found out he didn't make it.
Before I knew it, everything was black."She's coming too." I hear a familiar voice whisper. I snap open my eyes and lurch forward, now remembering what happened.
"Cleo!" Hermione jumps forward, grabbing me. I look to my left to see the familiar voice was indeed Ginny and to my right sits Harry.
"What happened?" I grumble, running my hand over my face. Harry hands me some chocolate which even I know makes you feel better so I happily take it.
"You tell us. Harry said he found you with a dementor sucking about an hour ago." Hermione informs me. I look over at Harry and furrow my eyebrows.
"What were you doing on that street, that late at night?" I ask him, Harry shrugs his shoulders.
"I was visiting an old friend who had recently moved there." He tells me, assuming he's being honestly.
"Did you use your patronus?" I ask feebly, Harry nods.
"Why didn't you? You know how to cast it." Ginny asks me. I laugh more at myself than her.
"Because I couldn't manage to think a simple happy thought, that's why." I admit.
Harry and Hermione share a look.
I take that as my cue to leave, before any other questions come my way.
"What, where are you going?" Harry asks me.
"I have to get home. Unfinished business and what not. Look thanks for the chocolate and not letting the dementor suck my soul out of my body but I have to go." I pat myself down, double checking I still have my wand. I do.
"But why were you there? It was the same house that the snatcher attack took place." Harry furrows his brows at me. I chew the inside my cheek and remain quiet.
"Thanks again." I apperate home as soon as I speak.
I land on my couch and finish my chocolate bar.
"Cleo?! Cleo! Thank god! I thought somethin' 'appended. I was worried sick." Donnie comes rushing in, taking hold of my face in his hands.
His eyes roamed my body checking for any harm or trauma.
"I'm fine, just had a run in with the dementors that came." I assure him, sighing tiredly.
"I'm so sorry." Donnie rests his forehead on mine, out of relief. "I was so scared you..." Donnie didn't finish his sentence.
I pull away slightly and smile at the boy.
"I said I'm fine. I'm a fighter and you know it." I swear to him. Donnie stares me in the eye and rubs his thumb over my cheek.
"I know. That's what bloody worried me." He chuckles quietly but I can see the genuine relief in his eyes.
I smile and squeeze the boys shoulders.
"You're not getting rid of me that easy." I assure him.
"I 'ope not." Donnie leans forward and crashes his lips again mine.
Donnie kisses me.
