Omertà, Aufiero's Return

Chapter 10

-2 weeks later-

For the past weeks, everything has been okay except for the fact that Aufiero has been kind of distant. I've been talking with my 'dad' lately, and I came to the conclusion that we actually have more in common than I thought. Like the fact that we both put ketchup on cucumbers. It's weird, i know, but don't knock it til you try it. Other than that, Noni has been bouncing off the walls. Our family vacation is nearing and Aufiero decided that we'd go to Disney instead of Barbados. 

Noni and Aufiero are with each other all the time. It's like they forgot all about me. They've been going all over the place to different sporting events, or even just out to eat, and they never include me. I don't bother to complain about it because they're bonding but sometimes it would be nice for all of us to do something together. The family vacation does not count. I mean like something spontaneous that we don't have to plan out. 

Aufiero walks in the door with Noni by his side and a smile on his face. They're covered in sand. "Mommy, we had so much fun at the beach. You should've came with us"Noni squeaks. I chuckle, "I didn't know you guys were going to the beach" My eyes glance up at Aufiero who has a stern look on his face. 

"Noni, go take a bath"He orders. Noni runs into the back without saying another word. I stand in front of Aufiero with my hands on my hips. His head tilts to the right. "Is there a problem?" I ask. 

"I killed Karson" 

"Why would you do that? I told you I'd tell my dad. Why would you even?"

"Because we don't need to depend on your dad to handle our problems."

"I'd rather him deal with it than you going back to prison"

"And who said I was going back to prison?"

"You will if you get caught you fucktard"

"You're the fucktard. You fucked him, remember?'

"You just won't let it go, will you?"

He sighs and rubs his chin. "My parents are coming to Disney with us"He says clearly changing the subject. 

"Okay" I said folding my hands together. His eyes became fixed on my fingers. "Where's your ring?" 

"You took it" 

He bites his lips and walks off. 

I don't bother to say anything else. Noni walks back in wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt. A flashback of Aufiero appears in my mind. "Mommy, can I tell you something?"

"Sure" I say clueless as to what he can possibly have to tell me. He pulls me towards the couch and flops down. "You ready?" I nod. "Okay, when we were at the beach daddy was talking with uncle Stadi and he was telling him about how he was being mean to you and how you hurt his feelings" 

"Really?

He nods. "But how did you hurt daddy's feelings?'

"It's complicated Noni"

"What does complicated mean?"

"You'll find out later"

He looks around the room and then crawls on my lap. "Is daddy gonna move away?" "Np? Why would you think that?"

"Because Victoria told me that her dad moved away because her mommy hurt his feelings"

I sighed and kissed his forehead. "Well. Me and your dad are not the same as her parents. He's not leaving and I'm not leaving either. We're a family and families don't leave each other behind"
