Omertà, Aufiero's Return

Chapter 20

So I decided im going to continue the story. So maybe  2 or 3 chapters left depending on how the rest of the story goes. So yeah, I have an idea on how im gonna end the story and it may or may not be a cliffhanger. I still havent decided that part yet but here's chapter 20 so. 

3 Weeks Later 

I sighed as I looked at the man standing in front of me. Lord knows that I was grateful to see him but the lord also knows how bad I want to kick ass. Ever since Aufiero brought me back home he's been trying to talk to me and apologize but I honestly didnt want to hear it. He'd tried bringing me gifts. Tried taking me on dates but none of it worked. None of it will ever work. I dont know why he cant get it through his thick skull that Im done with him. 

After a couple seconds of staring at him, I let him inside the house. He claims he came to spend time with Noni but it's probably gonna turn into him and I arguing and end with me crying and pushing him outside. 

"I uh, I wanted to know if we could go out somewhere, yknow as a family" He says. I just stare at him. He shakes his head. "Ok then, we dont have to. Where's Noni?"

"He's asleep"

"Well, why didnt you wake him up? I told you I was on the way"

"Can I ask you something?"

"What?"

"Why do you keep trying after I tell you no a million times"

"Because I love you"

"And when did you realize that?"

"I realized that when I proposed to you"

"Oh really?"

"Yes, but I realized it even more when you got taken from me again"

"So, it takes me being kidnapped like 15 times for you to realize that you really love me"

"Why you gotta over exagerate like that"

"I mean, thats what it felt like."

"Noelle"

"Just go wake up Noni and leave"

 He turned around but Noni was standing at the door. I smiled at him. Even though he looked a lot like his stupid ass father, I still loved him to death. Noni walked over to us and stood next to me. "When are you gonna stop being mean to daddy? I want you guys to be nice to each other so daddy can come home" He said. I immediately looked at Aufiero who stood there looking at Noni. I didnt really know how to answer his question. I hadnt even realized that he noticed what Aufiero and I were going through. 

"Noni, its adult business okay." 

He frowned "You always make my daddy upset" He went and stood next to Aufiero. "Come on daddy lets go" 

They left without saying another word to me. I felt my heart drop as I sat down on the couch. Does my son hate me for not wanting to be with his father?

That Night 

Aufiero didnt bring Noni back. But instead, he brought himself back. 

"Are you okay?" He asked as he walking into what used to be the room we shared. He moved into a small apartment across town. "How did you get in here?"

"I used my key"

"You cant do that."

"Yes I can. I bought this house and I pay the bills in here. I can come in here whenever I want"

He had a point so I didnt say anything. I just looked at him. He sat down on the edge of the bed. "I asked you a question"

"Why wouldnt I be okay?"

"Because of how Noni acted earlier"

I shifted in my spot. "Im fine"I said quietly. "No you're not Noelle" The way he looked at me made me want to shed tears. Of course I still love him but what would being with him again bring me? Nothing. Chances are, I'd probably be taken again. Aufiero got up and sat next to me. "Please dont" I said as he pulled me closer to him. "You cant keep pushing me away forever"

"Yes I can" I whispered. "You need me just as much as I need you"

"I dont need you. I can take care of myself"

He didnt say anything after that. He just squeezed my hand tightly. I noticed that he still had his wedding band on. "I never take it off"He said softly looking at me. A rush of guilt ran through my body. "Why do you do this to me? No matter the circumstance, no matter how hard I try, I cant hate you. I just cant"

"Im sorry. Im sorry for everything from taking you from Vaspicci to not believing you. I promised that Id always protect you and I didnt follow through on that promise and Im so sorry. Im sorry for harassing you after I found you. Im sorry fo- "

"Aufiero, you dont have to keep apologizing. I forgave for all of that a long time ago. I just dont think that its safe for us to be together. Something always happens and I cant live with the thought of knowing that if I go out somewhere, I might not return home. Or knowing that my life or my sons life is in danger because of business that his father does. I just cant be apart of your mafia lifestyle anymore"

"Im out of it Noelle. Finostadi is taking over"He said with his head down. "Why?"

"Because if it means losing my family, then I dont want to be apart of it. Thats something that I should have realized a while ago and Im sorry that it took me so long to realize it but im seriously out of it."

"What are you gonna do for money then? You're a convicted felon"

"I have enough money to last us for a while. When the time comes for the need of more money, I'll deal with it then but Im not worried about it right now"

"But, that was your family legacy Aufiero"

"Not anymore. Noelle, I did it for you. Im changing my life around for you. Everything I do in my life is for you."

"I just, I need time to think things through. We cant just hop back into a relationship like nothing happened"

"Technically, the relationship was never over. We're still married. We just went on a little short break"He said with a smirk. I closed my eyes for a brief second. "Aufiero, I just need time to get myself together."

"And you can have all the time you need but I just love you too much to let you go that easily. I know I fucked up and Im willing to do whatever you want me to do to get you back. I want us to be a family again. Earlier, Noni told me that he hates that you dont smile as much. He said whenever he's around one of us, we're always sad."

"Sometimes it seems like he only cares about your feelings."

"He cares about you a lot Noelle. What he said earlier might've sounded like he didnt but trust me, he says things worse than that to me. I be wanting to hurt that little boy but I cant"

I smile a little. "Better not hurt my son"

"I could never" He says with a smile. 

Before I knew it, Aufiero's lips were on mine. My body betrayed me as I gripped onto the bottom of his shirt. His hand was in my hair and in one swift movement, he was on top of me placing soft kisses on my neck. He looked up at me and kissed my lips again. "I love you Noelle"

"I love you too"
