Ok, so for all you Haitian teenagers out there I feel your pain. If your parents are at all like this and you're not Haitian I feel your struggle too.

Ok first off, don't get me wrong I love my diri avec sos pwa (sorry if I spelled it wrong I can barely write in kreyol) but why must we always (ALWAYS) have rice! Every single day rice rice rice and once in a blue moon my mother makes spaghetti or soup but 95% of the time I have rice for dinner!

The day my mother catches me with outside food is the day I hear a speech that goes on for 30 minutes while I stand there awkwardly wishing that I had music or something.

Like mwen pa ka konprann sa. You tell me this speech every time. I tell you that I bought a slice of pizza and you go on about how she didn't have money to go out in eat when she was a kid. She always ate whatever her mother gave her, she doesn't cook for her health.

And I scream (in my head of course, screaming at her would mean suicide for me or a one way ticket to Haiti), THIS IS AMERICA, YOU ARE NOT YOUR MOTHER! YOU'VE BEEN TELLING ME THIS SPEECH SINCE I STARTTED GETTING AN ALLOWANCE!
