Turning the corner, Adriane was greeted with a long line of people facing towards her. She stiffened as she tried counting the numbers. 20... 25... 30... Oh hell, I'm not even going to try to continue. She approached closer, and took in a whiff. Her eyes widened as she realized they were all humans.
"'ey, you," The bouncer guarding the front door shouted to Adriane, his eyes were concealed with dark shades, even though it was well passed midnight. After receiving the directions to the club, Adriane had made her way back to her hotel to dress more appropriately for a nightlife place. She wore a dark blue cocktail dress with silver heels. Adriane glanced over at him, raising an eyebrow in suspicion.
"You coming in or what?" The bouncer continued. Strangled cries of protest rose from the waiting crowd. The bouncer snapped his head towards the group, silencing their words with just a deep scowl.
Adriane made her way slowly to the bouncer, side-glancing at the line to see people staring at her with mixed emotions. When she neared him, the bouncer lowered his shades enough for Adriane to watch them softly glow gold before he moved his glasses back into place. Adriane put two and two together. Wolves got VIP access to the club. She nodded slightly to him before entering the door.
The scent caught Adriane off-guard. Sweat, pine, alcohol, and wolves. Adriane's lip curl into a snarl as she breathed in the scent. She ascended the stairs, and she stopped in the archway. The room was dimly lit. Across from her was a bar with electric blue lighting wrapping around the frame. The dance floor was lit up in various colors. There were plush red seating in forms of booths along the sides. There were various other things, but what really caught Adriane's eye was the glass door marked 'Employee's Only' and contained an electronic key card scanner. She grimaced. There was no way she was going to get back there without a key card. Grumbling, she made her way to the bar and sat down.
Not soon after she sat down, a man sat down next to her. The bartender was a girl, and hadn't even noticed Adriane sit down, but instead, was shoving her boobs in the faces of some younger men on the other side of the bar. She glanced over at the man, and noticed he was human, but he smelled strongly of rogues. As he flagged down the bartender, Adriane noticed a shiny plastic keycard in his chest pocket. She bit her lip as she looked at it, trying to remember the lessons she had learned from a TV show she had seen about misdirection.
She searched around her, looking for something that could distract him. He talked with the bartender, all charm on as he smiled at her. Adriane saw a large, thick straw to her left and grabbed it. She waited for the bartender to turn around. When she did, she made sure that the man was still looking forward when she tossed the straw in front of him. His head turned right to follow the straw out of pure shock and confusion. She quickly reached for the keycard, which was on her side, and when she grabbed it, she bumped her shoulder into him to cover up that she took it. Slipping it into her clutch purse quickly, she lightly grabbed his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you! I was grabbing a straw and it flung out of my hand! Like those really weird times where you pick up a pencil and it just goes flying out of your hand." She smiled at him, cocking her head a bit. She let go of his should, causing him to look over at her. His eyes lit up like he saw something he liked.
"Oh no! It's fine! By all means, let me buy you a drink. It was most likely my fault you bumped into me. I'm Nolan." He extended his hand out to Adriane and she smiled sweetly before turning her body towards him. She shook his hand before pulling her hand back.
"I'm Adriane! And thank you, I'll take a Budweiser beer." Adriane said, grabbing a strand of her hair and twisting it around her fingers.
"A woman after my own heart!" Nolan exclaimed, throwing a hand over his chest. Adriane giggled. When Nolan turned to the bartender again, she shot a look to the employee door. She could care less about this guy now that she had his keycard, but if she just left right now, he'd follow her with his eyes. She sighed. She couldn't leave now that he had bought her a drink. She'd drink it quickly and then leave to go to the bathroom.
When the bartender returned with their drinks, she shot Adriane the stink eye before going back to the two men across the bar. She grabbed the glass the bartender had poured her, thankful that it wasn't too large. She took various large sips as Nolan rambled on and on about things she could care less about. After about 10 minutes of agonizing waiting, she finished her drink.
"Let me get you another one!" Nolan said with a smile as he waved over the bartender.
"Don't worry about it, I was going to head to the bathroom before I leave. I have work in the morning." Adriane stated with a thin lipped smile. He nodded.
"Ain't work just a fun killer? Can I get your number? Maybe we can meet up again?" Adriane wouldn't give the man her number even if she had a phone. She never thought phones would be useful, but that didn't keep her cousins from getting ones. Adriane grinned at him.
"Don't worry, you'll see me around here again." She took off towards the bathroom, not waiting for his reply. She could feel his gaze following her, more than likely trailing up and down her body as he took in her dress that clung to her curves. She opened the door, and looked at herself in the mirror. She ran a hand through her hair before fluffing it and then grabbed a paper towel to help get rid of some of the mascara that had clumped on her skin below her lashes. She tossed the towel, glanced at herself one last time before let out a large huff and walking back out. She made a bee-line for the glass door, sticking to the opposite side of the building so it was less likely that Nolan would spot her.
She slipped in and out of shadows, ignoring people that tried to talk to her. Eventually, she made it the door. Opening her clutch, she slipped the keycard out. She swiped it through the card scanner, and waited briefly for the card to be authorized. The light turned green and she yanked down on the handle. The door eased open silently, making it slightly eerie that it was so quiet. Adriane slipped in, shutting the door quietly behind her. It clicked into place and she heard the slight sounds of electronic locks sliding back into place. She was greeted by a long corridor, and at the end of it was a large wooden door marked office. Adriane could hear voice that resounded from the room and knew that's where she needed to go.
