Nathaniel blinked a couple times. He took in the doctor's appearance. He could make out every pimple scar left over from the older man's younger years. His curly dark hair was cut short, but still managed to look unruly.

"Well, before I fainted, I was taking my guard partner away from a prisoner she was trying to kill." Nathaniel withheld some of the information. The doctor didn't need to know why Amber was about to kill her relative. He didn't need to know about the painful stirring that occurred in his stomach when he heard Adriane sobbing from her cell. The pain so great that it caused him to go unconscious. Nathaniel now knew it was his wolf breaking free of the chains the Company spent hours diligently creating through their torture.

A wave of betrayal and hatred washed over him. The people he had grown up with and loved had secretly locked away half of his being. He had forgotten all that came with the wolves. The almost sixth sense they gave, the undying love of mates, what having a rank in a pack entitled aside from the pride and strength.

And strongest of all, the abhorrence he felt towards them for blocking the majority of his instincts to love his mate, Adriane. The culpability ate at him. She didn't deserve to deal with a mate who didn't feel close to anything for her while she bore the responsibility of those feelings solely on herself. Then to top it off, she had to hide them as to not freak him out.

"... Nathaniel?" He snapped back into the present, blinking with alertness. The doctor smiled softly before looking back down at the clipboard that rested in his lap. "What happened after you took her away?"

"We got to the top of the stairs out of the cell block. I don't know what happened, but I just blacked out." Nathaniel said innocently. Doctor Rajeesh jotted down a couple things.

"Did you feel anything? Anything... hurt or feel odd right before you fainted?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Nathaniel knew what he was prodding around for. The doctor was looking to see if Nathaniel's wolf had tried to connect with him. He looked down at his hands as if to think.

"I had a migraine around then. I got lightheaded before I fell over." He shrugged, dismissing the notion as something small. Rajeesh gave him a hard look, scrutinizing for any indication that he was lying. He must had believed his story because he gave him a small smile and nodded before jotting it down.

"Yes, I suppose you'd get stressed having to deal with questioning a new prisoner. How are you feeling now? Any pains?" Nathaniel shook his head. The doctor nodded again, writing down more information on the paper.

"Okay, Nathaniel. I guess you're free to go. Don't get too stressed for the next day though. We don't want you coming back in here, all right?" He sent the doctor a thin lipped smile. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, ready to get out of the clinic.

Sliding on his shoes that were tucked neatly under his bed, Nathaniel got ready to leave. Nodding to Doctor Rajeesh, he made his way out of the infirmary and towards the jail cells. He made his way down the plain, bare corridors. Nathaniel couldn't help but think of all the wolves that were carried down the same halls. The screams of the past seem to create a ringing in his ears, and he winced.

He grew anxious with each colleague that stopped him in his path. They would ask him a series of questions of things similar to "Are you okay?", "What happened?", "I heard about what happened, do you know why you fainted?". He knew that they were just worried for him, but he couldn't help the irritation that spiked.

He answered all their questions with barely veiled impatience. They would ask him if he was expected somewhere and he was just vaguely answer he had somewhere to be. They'd let him go after a concerned glance, but didn't question him further.

He made it to the jail cells finally. Thundering down the stairs, he walked with rushed steps to his mate's cell. He gripped the steel bars like a vice, seeing her curled up in a ball on her cot, her face slightly read and puff for crying. His chest tightened painfully.

"Nathaniel?" She called out groggily. She sat up slowly, leaning her weight on one arm as she wiped her eyes with the other hand. Her eyes quickly widened. She stood up from her cot and hurried over to the bars.

"Are you okay?! I didn't hear all of what happened, but there was a loud crash right after you left with Amber... Is everything okay?" She stared at him, her eyes searching his face for any pain. He smiled at her, enjoying the content feeling his wolf gave off at being in her presence.

He reached forward kissing her passionately, ignoring the cold metal bars pressing painfully into his cheeks suddenly. His hands snaked around the bars to cup her cheeks; his thumb stroked her skin softly. She melted into the kiss, slowly coming to terms what was going on. She moved in sync with him, and he relished in the heat that radiated off her body. The fire continued to build between them as they kissed. Eventually, Adriane pulled away, a shocked look on her face.

"Oh... Okay... Well... That was unexpected." She stammered out. Her eyes blinked quickly, and her mouth was slightly parted in surprise. Nathaniel smiled softly at her, stroking her cheek again. She leaned into his touch.

"I remember," He whispered quietly to her. "I remember everything thanks to you."
