"Alright Adriane, what's the position you hold in your pack?" Nathaniel questioned her. She jutted her chin out as she looked him up and down. A shiver went down his back at the way she looked at him. What confused him was it wasn't an intimidated shiver, but a pleased one?
"Alpha," she gave out proudly, surprising him with her cooperation. Usually when in questioning, wolves snarl and spit at the interrogators. He cocked his head slightly to the side as he looked her directly in the eyes. She met his gaze head on, no emotion on her face. That surprised him again. Alphas were always insulted when people below them stared them in the eyes.
"If you are an Alpha, why aren't you insulted by me staring directly into your eyes?" He observed her grasp on the blanket tighten, and he made a note to bring clothing for her later.
"I have my reasons," She suddenly snarled, turning to sit on the cot; her back against the wall. Nathaniel bit his lip. For some reason, he was worried about what he would say that would offend her.
"How did you get here?" He asked curiously. It wasn't apart of the questioning process, but this wolf was different to him for some reason. He could tell in the dim lighting that her nose wrinkled up in discontent.
"I was looking for information about this place, and I was on my way to my source when I was sudden chloroformed and thrown into the back of a van." Her eyes wandered over his features in a calculating way. It was as if she was gauging his reaction.
He attempted to keep his true, confusing feelings under control; he was shocked when a strong, protective emotion washed over him as well as anger. Something must have leaked through his facade because an emotion flashed through her shadowed eyes. Relief? Happiness? Either way, neither of those feelings made sense to him.
"Why were you looking for this place?" He interrogated, his eyes narrowing into defensive slits. Adriane mimicked his gaze. She tucked her legs up to her chest.
"That's also none of your god damned business!" She snapped, hunkering her head closer to the sheet. Nathaniel watched her closely. Her movements didn't seem like those of an Alpha. From the Alphas the Company had brought in, they all were prideful and kept themselves assertive. Maybe because she was young? Did she have any experience running a pack?
"You best remember who has you encaged," He reminded her darkly. She growled warningly at him. He continued on anyways. "How old are you?"
"19," She spat angrily. Her eyes flickered with an inner fire.
"What pack are you from?" She sized him up once again. Her features seemed to soften, and she sighed. She slowly stood from her cot before sauntering up to the bars. Nathaniel couldn't help but train his eyes on the way her hips swayed, even through the sheet. What snapped him out of his trance was when she wrapped her fingers of her free hand elegantly around a bar of her cell. She leaned her head against the bar as she stared up at him through them.
"I'm from the pack in southern Minnesota." Adriane said softly, tucking her bottom lip in between her teeth. Nathaniel couldn't help but feel the sadness that radiated off her in waves. His stomach churned angrily once again. It was like it created a force that pushed him to do unexpected things. It was like a magnetic pull he couldn't control. He reached up, slowly trailing the back of his finger down her cheek. Her eyes fluttered closed, and she sighed almost inaudibly. He bit his lip, trying to hide the smile that the tingling from the touching skin brought.
Then it was like a flip switched in her. Adriane's eyes shot open and a low growl left her throat as her eyes flashed a glowing electric blue. He pulled his hand back fast, afraid she might bite something off. "And you're people killed all of them." She hissed. She moved back towards the center of the cell before saying more to herself, "All of them..."
Protocol called for Nathaniel to keep asking questions until he got all the answers. But, the way Adriane was now, he couldn't bring himself to do it. He shook his head, finding it weird since this had never happened before. He sighed, sending the pacing she-wolf one last look before he started towards the exit.
"Wait..." Her feminine voice met his ears. His body stopped completely before he even could comprehend completely what she had said. He glanced over his shoulder, seeing her at the bars again. "Why are you so nice? What's your name? How come you're not torturing me for the answers I know you need?" Nathaniel sent her a smirk. He turned around and looked down at the ground before he turned to face her. He leaned back a little, his hands shoved deep in his pockets.
"My name's Nathaniel. As for the rest, I plead the 5th." And with that, he exited the cell block, on his way to get clothing for her.
