What was left of my grandparents house was surrounded by firefighters and their trucks along with our neighbors. I yanked open my door and ran to the fire chief with Derek following behind me.

"What happened to my house?" I asked the chief.

"Well we are thinking it was set on fire by someone Miss?"

"Clara Mayfield. I lived here with my grandparents." My heart stopped when I thought about them. "Are they okay?"

"Yes, yes they weren't even home when it happened." I let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness. I don't know what I'd do of they got hurt." Derek wrapped his arm around my waist. I leaned into him. "Is it safe for us to walking in the coals and ashes now?"

"Yes."

"Okay." I pulled away from Derek and walked into the warm coals looking for books, pictures, anything I could save. I found a picture of my mom and dad standing by the river close to town and the pack house. I didn't realize I was crying until I felt Derek wipe my tears away.

"Babe it'll be okay. I promise." I nodded.

I had called my grandparents and they were staying at the pack house and they wanted me and Derek to stay there. I happily obliged. It was a short car ride to get there thankfully. If it wasn't I would've made Derek pull over and I would have shifted and ran just so I'd feel better.

Derek pulled into he driveway and up to the three story tall building. I undid my seatbelt and jumped out of my truck the moment it was stopped. My grandparents were standing on the deck waiting for us.

"Grandma Papa! Thank goodness you're okay." I hugged them both before stepping back to stand beside Derek.

"Is he your mate?" I nodded slowly. Their behavior was weird. My grandma let out a sigh of relief. "Thank God." I noticed Derek was tense.

"What are you talking about?" I asked

"We have something to tell you when his parents get back."

"Okay." You could hear the skepticism in my voice. "Well I'm going to get something to eat. Talk to you later." I walked into the house with no other words and made my way to the kitchen. It took me a while to find as I haven't been here for a long time.

"Alpha." A girl bowed her head to me as she walked out of the kitchen. I frowned. I didn't like it when my pack did that. It made me feel out of place. My stomach growled snapping me out of the daze I as was in. I took out food to make a sandwich when I heard the front door open and close.

"Its good to see you guys again." My grandma spoke.

"Its nice to see you too. Anyway you Sid that the alpha was here. Are you sure she is capable of handling this?" A woman asked.

"Yes, yes." She lowered her voice for a moment so I could hear what she was saying. "Clara dear!"

"Yeah?!" I called.

"Can you come here a moment?"

"Yep." I walked out of the kitchen and to the living room where she was sitting with Derek, papa and two other people.

"Clara these are Derek's parents Simon and Lillian Shane." I st beside Derek on the love seat with my grandparents across from us.

"Clara darling." My grandpa started. "You know how you are betrothed?" He paused. "Well you're betrothed to Derek."
