XXIII.
Before I knew it, we were all safely back at the barn without a scratch, except for me. My feet ached with cuts and blisters and if I didn't know any better I'd think they belonged to an escaped slave.
"Guys." Eli's deep voice boldly boomed, "we need a plan. Now." Briella, Gavin, and I, gathered around Elijah as Izzy silently sat on the floor and played with pieces of stray hay.
"It's nearly lunch time, so the news about us "run aways" is most likely already out. And to make matters worse, we don't even have disguises yet." He said giving us each a chance to look him in the eye before continuing,
"Since we got ambushed back at the warehouse, we obviously missed the train to Hugh's place. We're behind schedule and that's giving S.H.E a quicker gain on us."
"Hugh?" I asked aloud by accident.
"Their dads friend." Bre replied in a "duh" tone, waving her hands at Gavin and Eli.
"Oh." I said stupidly, 'Well sorry miss know-it-all, but I wasn't the one clinging to them at the facility cause I was trapped on the roof!' I venomously thought. Know-it-all? Did I just call her miss know-it-all without realizing it? That's what I called Eli before... Don't tell me she's just like him in that way, then they'd be perfect together.
I felt my heart drop for some odd reason as I clustered my mind with their similarities. They're both attractive, smart, leaders, brave but hold the same amount of childish genes as well. It's like they're a match made in heaven.
"Sienna?" Gavin said, waving his hand up an down in front of my eyes. I flickered back to reality,
"H-huh?" I said.
"You seem really out of it..." He stated, "you okay?" He worriedly looked at me as I have him a reassuring grin.
"I'm fine." I quickly replied, "just thinking about some stuff."
"Anyways," Eli cleared his throat as he won the gaze of me and Gavin back, "Ready to get back on track?" He questioned as we nodded.
"So I'll go out with Izzehya first, scope out the place and then text one of you to let you know when it's clear." He instructed as he bent down and curled Izzy's small frame around his broad shoulders and onto a piggyback.
"I'll bring back supplies for you guys."
"Wait, do you have enough?" Gavin asked as Eli pulled out a sleek black card.
"Don't know how I manage to still have this, but lets max it out before it's canceled." He smirked as he walked towards the door.
"WAIT!" I screamed, "I'm not letting you go alone with Izzehya." I couldn't trust him if Brie was telling me the truth.
"I- I mean cause, we all know how well that ended last time." I covered up as I reached for Izzy's sides and pried him off of Eli's back and onto the creaky floor.
"I'll go with you, and Izzy can stay safe and sound with Brie and Gavin." I said without thinking and quickly shouted "Bye Bye" as I pushed Eli out the door, my clumsy self following close behind.
"What was that about?" Elijah asked with a brow raised, erasing the moment of awkward silence that I took to just stare awkwardly at the rubble.
"Nothing!" I said almost too quickly, "just feel like I should be more useful around, you know?"
Okay, so maybe deep down inside I want to spend some quality alone time with Elijah. But that's only cause I want to clear up the argument he witnessed a few minutes back, nothing else.
