Ryan was gone when I woke up. And I don't mean he left me alone in bed. I mean the entire house was empty. He didn't leave me a voicemail or text telling me where he'd gone. He didn't even write a note. He just left.
I walked past the living room, picking up my baby on the way through. He was asleep but I was afraid to be awake by myself in the big house. I walked into the kitchen and glanced at the time shining from the clock on the stove. 5:12 am. Where the hell would Ryan be this early in the morning?
What if he left? What if knowing Spencer knew who he was scared him off and he just left me? Right after taking my virginity and telling me he loved me for the first time. No. Ryan wouldn't do that. Because he really did love me. He'd probably gone out for a jog or to drive to clear his head. He wouldn't leave me like this.
I rushed back into the living room. My bare feet paddling against the floors. I peaked out the front window to get a view of the parking lot. The car was still in the driveway. He must have went on a walk then. He had to have gone on a walk. Because Ryan wouldn't just leave me. Leave us. My arms tightened around the dog and he whimpered.
"Sorry, boy." I muttered. Kissing the top of his head. "Daddy's missing."
I sat him back down on the floor. Instead of rushing back to his little bed, he stood there by my side. At least I knew somebody had my back.
Maybe I should go find Ryan. Maybe he'd walked too far and gotten lost. My brain perked up at the idea. I rushed back into the room to put on pants and a pair of sneakers. My puppy following behind the the entire way. I grabbed the car keys from the dresser and walked back to the front door. I opened the door and glanced down at my boy. He barked excitedly. Good. We were both ready for this.
I ran for the car. Afraid of being outside in the dark longer than necessary. I opened the driver's door and let the dog jump into the car first. Then I got in and locked all the doors. Taking a deep breath before sticking the key into the ignition and starting the car. I put the car in reverse and glanced up at my review mirror.
Jumping when I saw a dark figure standing directly behind the car. My hands tightened on the steering wheel as it walked around to the side of the car. The dog must have felt my terror because he began barking erratically. I couldn't move. I just sat there in shocked stupor as a hand came up and tapped the glass.
"Brendon, open the door."
"Ryan!" I sighed in relief. I turned the car off and unlocked the doors.
Before I could open it, the door was swinging open. Ryan grabbed me by my shoulders and pulled me out of the vehicle. I didn't even have time to balance on my feet before he was pushing me up against the side of the car. My baby jumped from the car, panting excitedly. Tugging and licking at the bottom of Ryan's pants. Little fucking traitor.
"What the hell are you doing?" Ryan whispered harshly in my face. His hands tightening around my shoulder. "Why are you sneaking off at five in the morning, huh?" He didn't give me time to answer before he was kicking the door closed and dragging me back towards the house.
"Ry-Ryan." I tried to speak as I was trudged back to the front door. He practically tossed me into the house. Slamming the door behind us.
"Are you trying to leave me?" He stalked towards me. It looked so scary. Him wearing all black and glaring at me with all the lights off in the house.
"N-No! I-I was looking for you. We were looking for you." I stammered, walking backwards to keep some distance between us.
"In the fucking car?" He laughed darkly. "You thought I was in the car?"
"No." I shook my head quickly. "I was using the car to drive around and look for you!"
"Don't fucking lie to me."
"I'm not!"
"Then why didn't you just call or text me?"
"I-I don't know." That would have been smart.
"Of course you don't." He looked away from me to stare at his leg. Boy was still tugging at the bottom of his pants. Trying to get his attention. "Get this fucking mutt off of my leg." He kicked his leg forwards, roughly. Sending my baby flying through the air. He slammed against the floor and slid before coming to a stop. His small whimpers filled the room.
"Baby!" I turned to go to him but Ryan grabbed my arm. Stopping me.
"You're not leaving me." He pulled me closer.
"Ryan, stop acting like this!" I tried to pull away but he was too strong. I was afraid. I hadn't been afraid of Ryan since the first time he'd appeared at my house. I didn't like this at all. This wasn't my Ryan. I don't know who it was. "I'm not going to leave you. I love you."
"Don't lie-"
"Why would I lie about that?" I yelled. My eyes filling with tears he probably couldn't even see.
I tried to snatch my hand away again and this time he let me go. I reached up to wipe the wetness from my eyes. But before I could touch my face, I paused. There was something on my hand. I brought it closer for a better look and almost gagged.
Blood? Whose blood?
