This was the worse Saturday of my life. I'd woken up early but no breakfast was in the kitchen. So I had to make a Pop-tart in the toaster. And then I watched the television until 12. I didn't usually watch TV on Saturdays, but I needed a pick me up. And then I worked. I worked right through lunch. By the time I lifted my head from the screen, it was dark out. I didn't care. I wanted the day to go by faster.
I put down my laptop and stood up from my seat. my stomach reacted with a vengeance. Crying out for Ryan's cooking. But Ryan wasn't here anymore. And I definitely wasn't going to burn down my kitchen in an attempt to cook. So I guess I was going out for dinner tonight. And by out I meant fast food. Probably McDonald's.
I slipped my jacket on and walked out the door. It was such an ugly night out. There weren't any stars in the sky and it looked like it might just rain. Ugh! I needed a car. I was a grown, working man. There was no plausible reason for me not having a car.
There was a short cut somewhere around here. I remember Spencer and I walking one day when it was nice out. I'm pretty sure it was just past the next corner. When I got there, I made turned instead of going straight. It took me to a long alleyway. Yeah, this looked familiar. As I got closer to the middle of the alleyway, I noticed I wasn't alone. There was a couple walking in front of me. The girl and the boy were both tall and thin. I wonder if they noticed me walking behind them.
The girl flipped her hair and laughed at something her boyfriend said. I began walking faster so that I would past them. I didn't want to be some creep listening in on their private conversation. The girl flipped her hair again and looked up at the guy. This time he spoke. I was close enough to make out what he said. And it sounded like he said,
"Hell."
I shivered. I must have heard wrong. There was something uncomfortably familiar about his voice. He turned to side and he was glaring. I knew that glare. And I knew that voice. It was Ryan. How had he not noticed me walking behind them? Where was he going? What was he doing? And who was the girl? Ryan didn't even like girls. Well exept- Oh shit! No!
I watched in horror as Ryan pulled something shiny out of his pocket. I tried to scream but I couldn't find my voice. I tried to run and stop him but my feet were glued to the cement. I couldn't do anything but stand and stare at the grusome scene unfolding before my very eyes.
Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. Making it even harder to watch. The light from the moon caught onto the blade before it came down and touched the girl. Actually, touched was such a gentle word. And the blade was anything but gentle as it invaded the girl's body. One swift cut to the abdomen. She doubled over. Grabbing at the wound. A gurgling sound coming from her mouth like she was choking on something. And she probably was. Her own blood.
I could feel warm tears sliding down my cheek as she fell to the floor. Ryan showed no mercy. He hovered over her and continued to stab. Drawing the blade up and slamming it back down into the girl. Over and over again until she wasn't moving. I felt sick. I was going to vomit. Why couldn't I look away? The finally stab was followed by a squishing sound. Like squeezing water out of a sponge. I didn't even know the human body could make that noise.
Ryan reached over and lifted something off the ground. A light glow was coming from the object. It must be her phone. He typed a few things before placing the phone a good distance from the body. He walked back over to the poor, dead girl and lifted his knife out of her. Bringing it up to his lips. I felt my eye twitch as his tongue slid across the bloody blade. That was it. I couldn't take this. I turned to the side and vomited. Ryan's head snapped up and he stormed over to me. Panic set in my stomach.
"Brendon?!" He said in shock as he stopped in front of me.
"Ryan." I said weakly, falling to my knees in front of him.
He bent down and hugged me against his chest. I should have been revolted by him, but I wasn't. I let him hold me. Quiet sobs escaped my mouth. Ryan stood and lifted me up bridal style. I let my head rest on his shoulder as I cried silently.
"Its okay." He cooed in my ear as he walked me away from the murder scene. He kissed my forehead gently. "It's all okay." I closed my eyes and was comforted by his warm hold and soft voice.
