Laura's POV

We sat down and had our meal. Clara got a bacon double cheeseburger with extra fries and an Oreo Milkshake while I munched on a chicken sandwich. Personally, I prefer Mint milkshakes more than Oreo ones. We gossiped for a while about this guy who was stalking Clara at her book club. His codename was Hamster (cause he looks like one.)

"Are you absolutely positive that it was him who moved back your place in your book?"

"Of course! What person in their right mind would move my bookmark?!"

"True, but maybe you just moved it accidentally, or it fell out or...?" Clara wasn't listening. Hey eyes were trained onto a guy washing the tables. The boy had curly brown hair, a lean stature and a bit of beard fuzz on his chin.

"You should ask for his number."

"Will you stop saying that? You think I should date anyone we met that like the Blackhawks!"

I laugh and my phone rings. It's some weird number on the screen. Nervous, i answer the call. Everything in the room seems silent as the voice starts talking.

"Is this Laura?"

I nod my head. They can't see you nod you idiot, you are on a cellphone. I say a quiet yes and they keep talking. The words stung me like a bunch of knives.

"I have some bad news for you. Your father is dead; he killed himself last night. We assume you are at a friend's house?"

I quickly lie and start to panic. Are they going to force me to move out?

"Well, I am sorry for your loss. He supposedly died of alcohol overdose. For some reason, his will was already written out. You get all the inheritance."

What?

"The problem is what to do with you. You are under legal age, so we might have to put you into a foster home or..."

"I don't think that will be necessary Cutting him off, in the most serious voice I can muster. "My friend is 21 and can be my legal guardian. Just hand over the paperwork and we can do the rest."

"Sigh. Alright, fine. Do it that way. I'm too tired to argue."

And with that, he hung up. Clara looked up at me. I can tell my her face that she heard enough. My brain spins trying to figure out what happened. Dad's dead? Why did he kill himself? and his will; what's up with that? Why did he give it all to me and not one of his asshole friends? Then the worst possible thought came into my mind.

Was I the one who killed him by leaving?

I couldn't stand it. Choking back tears, i shove a bunch of french fries in my mouth. Clara puts her head down; for a while, all is silent. Time seemed to slow down around us. Everyone in the restaurant seemed quiet. Finally, I decided to perk up. This was not the way I wanted to spend my first week away from my family.

"Let's not worry about it. I wasn't planned on being depressed about my father today."

Clara tried to smile, "Okay.... LET'S PARTY."

Patrick came running up to us with a huge smile on his face. Suddenly, he tripped and spilled the drinks he was carrying all over Clara. His face turned bright red, and it looked like he wanted to die. I burst out laughing, but Clara's death stare quickly shut me up.

"I'm.... I'm so sorry." Patrick stuttered. "You screamed so I ran over to see what was up."

"Oh, it's okay. I was just excited is all." Clara blushed. (Get a room.)

"Waiter??! Where is my milkshake?!" Some annoying kid across the room was screeching.

"I guess that's my cue. See you girls later."

"Bye!" Clara voice went really high up, and it gave me a minor headache.

I smirked, "And you yell at me for shipping you two..."

"Oh shut up."

Then I noticed a piece a paper in her hand. She hid it quickly and gave me a excited look. No. Way. I knew exactly what was on it. Patrick must have given it to Clara when that little brat was shouting and I was paying attention. At least she has a way to get away from Hamster now.

Preston's POV

After my shower, I head down to the store to grab some milk. Whole Food Market seems more crowded than usual, but maybe that was just because I haven't been in the store in a while and it is constantly growing more popular. I head over to the refrigerators and find a fat lady standing in front of the 2% section. Just as I was about to ask her to move, she turned around and threw a jug of milk toward the wall. Thankfully, it don't break or hurt anyone, but it did send me running away from her as quickly as possible. My eye moves to a cupcake sitting it the bakery section. It was chocolate with pale pink frosting, and looked absolutely adorable. It actually reminded me of Laura. I wonder if she likes cupcakes. Suddenly, there was a great clatter behind me; quickly, I spun around and saw that lady getting dragged out of the store. She was kicking and swearing the whole way. Oh well, at least I could get the milk in peace.

~Authors Note~

This is just as your story as it is mine. Do you guys think I should make the chapters longer like this one or combine the shorter ones? They would take more time to publish, but I figure they would be more enjoyable. Let me know what you think. (More Preston will be coming, this was just a very Laura dominate chapter)
