Laura's POV
At this point it was safe for me to assume that Preston wasn't going to try and move back into his apartment. He seemed perfectly at home with me and had redecorated his room to make it his own again. I would never tell him, but I was glad he decided to stay. To be fair, it was strange that he decided to pretty much moved in with me after knowing me for like two months, but there was something about the two of us that just sort of worked. We clicked. Today he was telling me about some gaming console he had ordered off the internet when (perfect timing) the doorbell rang with a package from Amazon. While he was chatting to the delivery man, I grabbed box and haul it to the kitchen counter. The box was slightly heavy, but I carried it anyway out of courtesy. As I set down the box, I see a pile of various envelopes addressed to Preston. The strange thing was that the apartment number these letters were for was my number, not his apartment. He must have changed it at some point. Why? I brush it off and head to the bathroom to wash my face before putting on my usual makeup. Preston always seems indignant when I put it on, but I really do it just for the feeling of productivity and pampering that comes from taking care of myself. With the finishing touch of a matte lipstick, I head out to the living room to see Preston on the couch already setting up his console. I sat down next to him while he was contemplating what his gamer tag would be. I would have given him multiple options for a name but was nervous that he would find my puns way too cheesy. My comedic ability was nothing compared to his and sure enough he came up with a tag that seemed to fit his personality well. I casually bring up the crazy amount of letters he has just laying on the kitchen table and he pauses for a moment, wondering if I will mention the address thing. When I don't, he smiles and goes over to check out what he received.
"Hey, would ya look at that, my cousin's have a wedding!"
"Really? That's awesome! When's the date?"
Preston squints at one of the lines on the page for a moment then lets out an almost girly scream. "It's next week! Why did she send out the invitations so late? They have been engaged for two years," he laughs, "you'd think they would be more organized than this."
I shrug, "Maybe they have everything ready but the invites came out late?"
"Maybe. She's always been considered the out of sorts one in our family. Not sure how well this wedding will actually go..."
"At least the invitation looks real formal," I try to stay positive, "maybe her fiance is planning the majority of it out."
"Possibly, but at least I can bring Mitch for emotional support. I'm allowed a plus one." He smiles he's signature full smile and heads back to his game.
He doesn't realize that his last comment erased the smile on my face. I get it, I haven't known Preston nearly as long as Mitch, but to invite Mitch as his plus one was disappointing. He did seem to have changed his address and is basically living with me, shouldn't that give me some credit? Whatever, he'll be out of MY apartment for at least a day next week, that will give me some time alone. Maybe I could have Clara visit since we haven't talked much since she moved out. I would have a feeling she wouldn't be pleased with Preston staying with me so this might be the only chance I get.
