Mitch's POV
I head into Preston's apartment as usual and head over to the elevator. I'm almost there when a girl walks out of it, brushing her long brown hair our of her face. She looks amazing. I knew I didn't have much time to stare, but I had never seen her here during any of my visits here. Hell, I practically live here I'm over so much. But I haven't noticed this girl before. She looked like she was in a hurry to get somewhere, and was holding a bag with something hanging out of it. It almost looked like the tassels you see on top of graduation hats. Instead of talking to her, I simply head into the elevator. I'm almost inside Preston's apartment when I remember that he exploded the microwave or something, so I knock on the next door over instead. Preston opens the door and tells me to come in. Whoever's apartment he's staying in, it's definitely tidy. There were soft rugs on the floor, the kitchen counters were spotless and everything had its place. It seemed like it came straight out of a interior designer magazine. I was surprised Preston hadn't messed it up yet.
"Hey buddy, what's up?" I head over to the kitchen and grab a bag of chips.
"Not much, just some guy walking into my apartment and raiding my snack supply."
I smirk and head to the couch to sit next to him. Preston and I have been buddies for a really long time, and I have never seen him being generous with his food. Especially not chips. But he seems dazed, as if he didn't even notice I was there. Something must have happened before I came.
"Ay, something's up with you. You're hiding something aren't you?"
Preston looks puzzled but smiles, "How'd you know?"
"Well, when you're an intern with the FBI, you learn things. So spill."
"Haha alright, but it's nothing too serious. You know that I don't own this apartment right?"
"Of course I do, you're never this neat."
He smirks, "Thanks. Anyway, the owner of this apartment and I are friends, obviously, and something happened before she left..."
Preston's POV
Mitch makes a gasping sound, "You're living with a giiiiirl." He mocks. I roll my eyes and he continues asking what happened. Not sure if I want to tell him everything, I casually say that I was a clumsy idiot and spilled water all over the couch and her. Mitch laughs so hard that he falls over. Once again, I roll my eyes and give him a friendly punch.
"Well, while you were busy with your water issues, I went out and found some interesting drama within the FBI."
"Are you sure you are allowed to tell me?" I ask. He always does, but it's scary sometimes to know of their top secret business.
"Don't worry about it. All I know is that their are some agents who haven't been doing their jobs lately, ya know, letting illegal stuff slide and smiling crack in the bathrooms. Rumor has it a bunch of people will get fired if they don't shape up."
I give him a weird look, "Why do you know all this stuff?"
"Cause it's my job to find all the illegal smokers, voters and others who they let go. It sucks but I got a year to turn someone in before I get kicked out."
"Yikes." This job means a lot to him, it's been his dream to do this kind of stuff. We lay out on the couch and play some games on the PS4 I was able to rescue from my apartment. After about 5 hours, Mitch says he has to go and I lead him out of the apartment. I look over at the clock and frown. It's 6 o'clock, how long is this meeting supposed to take? Just as I was starting to get worried that she got hurt again when she walked through the door. Her hair was slightly messy, as if she had just pulled a hat off her head and hadn't smoothed out her hair. She looks over at me kind of embarrassed, but she doesn't seem to want to fix her hair any time soon. I wanted to fix it for her, but I doubt she would let me.
"So sorry about that... Got stuck in traffic."
I shrug, "Don't worry about it, Mitch just left, so I wasn't lonely for too long."
She smirks and heads over to the kitchen to grab a sandwich. She sits down again on the couch and I join her, not knowing what to do say. The memories of what happened earlier are flooding back into my mind and I can't help but get nervous. Before I can say anything, she starts laughing.
"Looks like the couch isn't wet anymore, that's good, did you dry it before your friend came over?"
I smile, "I tried, but I don't think I did a great job. Mitch didn't seem to mind though."
"That's good, I don't know much about him, but I think I saw him in the lobby downstairs and he kinda reminded me of you." She shifts so that she is facing me on the couch very casually.
"I guess we are pretty similar but I'm wondering why your hair is such a mess." And again I make the rash decision to smooth out her hair. It slips softly through my fingers and I brush it to the side. She blushes slightly and says thanks. God she looks so cute. I can't help but blush too and she laughs quietly. My hand doesn't move from the side of her face by her hair, and she starts to move a tiny bit closer. Like an idiot, I get up from the couch and look through the fridge, trying to hide my embarrassment. She seems concerned but doesn't mention anything. Shit. I look over at a picture frame on the counter of the ocean and I get an idea.
"Hey, follow me real quick. I want to take you somewhere."
