Laura's POV

I get up off the couch at around 7 AM the next morning, surprised that I had slept for so long. However, I did feel better and went over to the fridge to get some breakfast. I never wake up this Early, I think as a grab some chicken and cheese and prepare a sandwich. Then after getting dressed, I decided to go out and do some shopping. The apartment needed some air fresheners ever since we moved in, and now seemed like a good time. I also wanted to get some new sheets for Preston go sleep on with the couch. I had no idea what color he liked, so I quietly grabbed some red ones. Before I headed back, I grabbed a book and some Chipotle. When walking up to my room, I noticed a note on Preston's door. It said something about how the microwave exploded and the radiation made the area toxic. That meant no more apartment for him. So at this point, Preston was pretty much forced to stay with me. And I was perfectly Ok with that. He wasn't home when I got back, so I plunged in my headphones while I ate. I love Chipotle, and it was amazing to be able to eat it in peace. I needed a rest from all the things from the past week. As I was putting the to go bag in the trashcan, Preston walked through the door. I don't think he knows about my knowledge of the kiss last night, so I wasn't going to bring it up.

"Hey."

"Hey, where were you this morning? I didn't see you when I woke up."

"Oh," I shrugged, "Just did some shopping and had some lunch. By the way, did you see the notice on your door?"

He frowned, "Yeah, bummer right? I guess I'll have to stay with you, if that's ok."

"Of course it is, you're a good guy. Plus I could use the company." Then I remembered something. "Preston, I slept on the couch last night. I took your spot by accident, where were you?"

He smiled and did a half shrug, "I grabbed a blanket and slept on the floor in Clara's old room. You were sleeping so peacefully I didn't want to wake you up."

"Wait, why didn't you just sleep on her bed? She's not here anymore... it would have made sense."

Preston blushed, "Oh yeah. I didn't think about that."

"That's fine," I laugh, "At least you can sleep there now and not on the couch."

I knew that if Clara was here, she would have killed me. But that didn't matter, I'll just change the sheets before she comes back, and double wash them.

"By the way, I bought some sheets for you, but I didn't know what color you liked so I just got red."

His face lit up, "Really? I love red! How did you know?"

I laughed and gave a small wink, "Instinct."

Preston smiled. He then opened the fridge and grabbed out some soda, "Want any?"

"Sure."

After the drink, Preston explained how he went out a bought a bunch of clothes and shampoo stuff. It turns out that we went to the same store this morning, but couldn't find each other. I personally found it kinda awkward, I but he thought it was funny so I didn't mind too much. Afterwards we decided to go out for a walk. It was a nice day out; warm, but not to humid, and with a slight breeze. The neighborhood was very beautiful, and we even ran into Patrick, Clara's "boyfriend." He immediately said hi and we started talking. The two guys really got along, talking about the NHL and other sports stuff. I noticed that for a second when Preston said who he was, Patrick looked concerned, but then kinda shrugged it off. It was obvious that Clara had told Patrick what she thought of him, but I was happy they were getting along. Unfortunately, Patrick got a call from his parents about his older sister's baby, so he had to leave. Preston and I continued walking underneath a canopy of trees, the leaves gently blowing in the wind. We smiled and talked, and our hands even bumped a couple of times. A couple came by with a golden doodle puppy and we said hi to both them and the dog.

"You know, I've always wanted a dog." I said as the couple turned the corner and walked away.

"Me too. Dogs are so amazing. Too bad they don't allow dogs in the apartments."

I stared at him for a solid minute. "Preston, Mrs. Weldno on the top floor has a chihuahua, there is a weight maximum for the dogs in our apartment building."

"What? I have lived in this apartment for 2 years and never knew that was a thing."

I smirked, "It is, I asked about it as soon as we moved in last month."

"Are you sure? That doesn't sound right."

We kept arguing about it as we walked back into the building. The lady at the desk laughed at us and proved me right. Preston's face burned with embarrassment. He seemed a bit more quiet when we walked back into the apartment. I gave him a little nudge with my shoulder and he lighten up. He made little dog noises and then sat down on the couch to watch another Disney movie. Apparently his mind latched onto the idea of having a dog a soon as I mentioned it. However, I went off and took a shower. It was nice and hot out, so the shower was divine. When I had finished, I entered the living room and noticed that Preston was texting during the movie. I flopped down next to him happily.

"Very focused on the movie, huh?"

He seemed surprised and quickly shut his phone. I couldn't see much, but I think he was taking to some person name Mitch, about some girl or something.

"Oh.... Uh ... yeah. Just got a text that I needed to answer." He seemed really nervous.

I smirked, "Who from? Your girlfriend?"

"Pfffw. No. I don't have one of those. Just my buddy Mitch."

Wait, he doesn't have a girlfriend? How is that possible; he is so amazing. That seemed really far fetched, but still. All the sudden he reached over me. I was internally screaming until I realized he was just grabbing the remote. Sigh. Why am I so hopeful sometimes. But, in all respect, I was technically living with him now (or he was living with me), and that was miracle in itself. Preston had got up and got some water, and while he was walking back with the glass, he tripped on the rug. Water soaked the couch and me, and Preston went sprawling on top of me. In the process, our lips grazed each others, and time seemed to slow down for a minute, but soon we realized how awkwardly wet the area was from the water.

"Are you.... I'm so sorry.... I didn't mean to get you all wet like.... But not like in that way, I, um..." Preston stuttered, astonished by the entire event. I couldn't speak I was so shocked, so I just nodded and tried to get up. He quickly moved so I could change again. When I came back (again), he quickly apologized.

"That's alright, it was kinda like a second shower." I laughed, distracting from the fact that my face was really red.

"Alright," he seemingly sighed with relief. "By the way, my friend Mitch is coming tonight for dinner."

"Oh, well, I have a .... meeting with a friend of mine, I better get going." I smiled and then rushed out the door. In reality, I was going to my graduation. I had decided years ago to graduate early, so that I could get away from this town, and the people in it. Plus, I needed a chance to breathe from the second kissing scenario. It made my stomach jump just thinking about it, I was so happy.
