I woke up to the sound of someone banging on my door. And by "I woke up", I meant I remained almost lifeless (figuratively) in my bed, grumbling like a zombie as I covered my head with the first two pillows I can grab.
"Veronica Solenn Rockefeller!," the person from the other side of the door exclaimed, followed by the sound of fumbling keys and my bedroom door being opened.
"You have to tell me every single detail of what happened with Harry!," the person demanded as the jumped on my bed, finally making me open my eyes. "Unless you did the nasty with him then leave the details of that out."
"Rachel, it's too early for this." I narrowed my eyes at her and tried to grab the nearest pillow but she grabbed it before I could. "Plus, didn't I tell you and the girls about it already yesterday?"
"Yeah, but I know you and you're very general when in public so," she paused as she pulled out a box of macarons and a cup of hot beverage, "I came here and brought breakfast so you won't act like the Grinch while you tell me all about it." She beamed, which surprised me.
"You look happy." I mumbled, taking the box of macarons and cup of hot beverage from her. "Is this--"
"English Breakfast, yes." She nodded with pride. "I know you prefer another kind of English Breakfast but God forbid I step foot in Brooklyn, even if it is to get you your English Breakfast." She wiggled her eyebrows at me, making me gasp.
"Okay, what the freaking hell did you do to my best friend and what's with all the innuendo?" I furrowed my eyebrows as I took a sip from my drink.
"What? Can't I be happy that you're finally settling down and you're on your way to being a monogamous person?"
"Hey! When was I not a monogamous person..."
Rachel raised an eyebrow at me, causing me to roll my eyes in response.
"I've always been monogamous when in a relationship."
"You've never been in a relationship. Even the one with Drew was all fun and games." Rachel rolled her eyes at me, opening the box of macarons after and popping a pistachio flavored one in her mouth.
"True," I shrugged, "but I won't be like that with Harry. I really like him, Rach. It sounds cheesy, but the way he looks at me, it makes me want to believe in myself. He makes me feel like I can be better." I placed the cup of tea on my bedside table.
"And that's why I like him for you." She placed a hand on mine and gave it a light squeeze as she smiled. For a second, I caught glimpse of a less elitist Rachel, then she went back to her usual self with her next comment. "Even if I still wish he wasn't from Brooklyn, but whatever." She shrugged, "I can live with it. I mean, he is studying at Trinity. Hopefully, he'll make it his life goal to get into an Ivy League and become a CEO one day. And by that I mean he should."
I laughed, nudging Rachel in the rib playfully as I took the box of macarons from her. I took a raspberry flavored one and ate it.
"Spill. Now." She grabbed the box from me so quickly, the macarons almost fell to the ground.
"Well, he said he bloody likes me a lot. I stayed the night, and no, we didn't do the nasty or whatever it is you're thinking we did. We just talked all night and slept next to each other. Cuddling. He was the little spoon, if you're wondering." I shrugged so casually, even if remembering that night sent shivers to my spine. I glanced at Rachel and was quite surprised to see the look on her face. "Okay, what's wrong? I just told you what happened."
"You're leaving some stuff out," she scooted closer to me as she popped another macaron in her mouth. "Like what is his room like? Is it what I'd expect from a poor person? What happened the next day? Did you spend the whole Saturday together? What?"
