You know how life can be, it changes over night
It's sunny then raining, but it's alright
I watched Harry as he walked down the second to the last aisle from the left side of the auditorium towards the stage, singing his part. It was December 14, 2012. Yes, I remember the date very well because it was the night we performed High School Musical 3. Incidentally, that was the very last time we stepped foot in that auditorium together.
If you were talking to 2010 Ronnie, she would say: "thank God that's over." 2010 Ronnie would be glad she doesn't have to wear sundresses anymore. She would be glad that she doesn't have to bat her eyelashes at her co-star (even if he's British) because she knows- hell, even Jesus knows- that batting your eyelashes can lead a boy to a very dangerous territory we all call "falling in love".
But see, 2010 Ronnie and 2012 Ronnie are complete two different people.
A friend like you always makes it easy
I know that you get me every time
2012 Ronnie doesn't mind wearing sundresses if it means she gets to see said co-star grinning uncontrollably- don't even get her started on how she thinks it's cute when his cheeks turn into a bright shade of red. She doesn't mind stealing glances, batting eyelashes, holding hands, forehead kisses, and she can actually breathe now when said co-star wraps his arms around her waist and twirls her around the stage (even when he doesn't really have to). I'm just as surprised as everyone, really. And yet, there I was, on that stage, actually sad and devastated that that would be the last time I sing, dance, and act with Harry.
I pushed the prop door open and twirled, walking towards the fake railings on stage as I sang my line. The crowd cheered and clapped as they watched us interact. I guess our chemistry on stage got better through time and the countless number of practices in and out of school.
Through every up, through every down
You know I'll always be around
Through anything, you can count on me!
I had to hold back the laughter when Harry stepped on Cathy's piano chair and stretched his arms. It's not that hard to tell that he was feeling the song. He doesn't like admitting it in front of everyone, but he does like High School Musical. A lot. Then again, he does this every single time he performs- you know give it his all. It was his passion. This reminded me of that time we talked after I blew my 18th birthday candles for the second time.
"What do you wanna be when you grow up?," I asked out of curiousity.
"Me? Hmm. I want to sing and act. But mostly sing," he replied. "I want to write my own music and collaborate with other artists. I want to travel the world doing what I love. I don't need to be famous, though that would be a good plus." He chuckled.
I glanced at him and noticed the way his face lit up as he talked about his dreams and what he wants to do with his life.
"I know it seems impossible." He sighed, the huge smile on his face turned into a small one as he looked back at me. "I mean, I'm just a lad from Holmes Chapel, now Brooklyn. Not that I'm ashamed of where I'm from, but I'm aware of how hard it is to enter the business. I have a lot of competition and these are people with actual training and connections. I don't have that much to offer compared to them."
I frowned and shoved him lightly on the shoulder. "What are you talking about? You have a lot to offer, Harry. You have a heart," I poked him on the chest, "A really big one, I must say. You're passionate about what you do. I don't think I've ever seen anyone as passionate as you are to be on stage. And I'm not just saying this because I'm your friend or because you exceeded every single expectation I have of people today," I pursed my lips as I felt the heat rise to my cheeks, "but I'm saying it because it's true." I nodded, giving him a small smile as I reached for his hand and gave it a light squeeze. "Don't ever give up on your dreams, okay?"
