Another Broken Smile

20- Safe Haven

Thursday morning is a bliss as I wake up to a raspy voice that I have missed way too much in the past few months

"Hello gorgeous" Daniel's deep voice greets me as I pick up the phone, a smile making its way onto my lips

"Good morning" I reply with a wide grin, that I can't seem to wipe off my face. I sigh contently as I pull the duvet over me, cuddling into the warmth.

"Ell I want to take you out on an actual date, some place nice,  soon," he says with seriousness next

"I'm sorry" I reply with the guilt seeping in as I explain, "I haven't really told Alec and Adeline about this"

"Why do you need to tell Alec" he says coldly with a distaste.

I just chuckle at him and defend my friend, "Because he's my friend now and he needs to know." He grunts with displeasure but doesn't say anything more about the subject.

"Just tell Adeline to cover up for you like she always does" he suggests

I can't really go on a date after informing Meghan so all the past dates I have gone with Daniel have been by lying to Meghan that I was going to Adeline's house which was partially true as Daniel picked me up from Adeline's house instead of mine. The rest of the dates were always during school hours mostly, also my hate for school made me feel a little less guilty for skipping.

Now before you wonder why Meghan cares about who I date, let me tell you, she makes sure I am not even remotely happy anywhere around her. Back in freshman year when Daniel and I hadn't started dating yet, I had been asked out by this really cute guy called Dustin.It was disastrous, when he showed up at the doorstep to pick me up, Meghan grilled him with uncomfortable questions and started yelling at him about absurd things until he ran away. He never once looked in my direction again. Since then I had decided to never make that mistake again.

"Adeline doesn't know about me dating you again and you aren't exactly in her good books yet" I explain to Daniel that I can't use the excuse that I am going to Adeline's house because sometimes Meghan calls Adeline to check up on me and Adeline would gladly cover for me.

That girl can be pathetic at lying to people close to her but she rolls the most absurd excuses with such innocence to Meghan that anybody would believe her.

"Can't you think of some other excuse" he says  with a pout I can almost picture him wearing, on the other line.

"Well I'll try" I tell him giggling lightly at his childishness.

"Okay, I got to go get ready for school. See you in English today" he says with a wave of disappointment.

"For the first time I am looking up for English period" I tell him honestly.

He chuckles softly and cheekily replies, "I'm glad that you are"

"Bye" I say and end the call. I get up from my bed lazily hoping I could stay under the covers talking to Daniel the entire day. But guess not, at least I've got something or rather someone to look forward to.

I am up earlier than usual and am done doing my morning duties before anyone else is up. When I greet Adeline at the door as her car parks in the nearby parking lot I grin wildly and she gives me a questioning glance.The rest of the day speeds by as I happily skip into school and spent the day joyfully beaming at everyone.

"What's with the smile Autumn" Alec says observing me as he sits on our usual lunch table just opposite to me.

"I don't know but she has been smiling like a creep like this since morning, not to mention she was up early" Adeline chimes in the conversation, also staring at me like I'm a lunatic
