Prompt: Caspar's a ghost, Joe can see him.

Words: 1068

Authors Note: How long as it been? Like a few months...sorry about that. But look a update!

"Go!"

Joe shot up from his bed, heavily breathing. He looked around only to see the same beige walls, with the same pictures. He lifted his hand to his chest and felt the rapid pulses of his heart. He gave one last lingering look before deciding it would be a good time to get up and walk around.

He quietly stepped out of his room, careful to not make a noise and wake the rest of his family. He walked down the stairs, feeling cold air hit the side of his arm. He turned around and saw blue eyes and blonde hair and smiled slightly.

You see he had an ability or a gift if you could call it that. He saw ghosts. Well more like ghost. Caspar.

"What's wrong?" Joe inhaled as he got lost in the icy blue eyes that haunted his dreams.

"Nothing." Caspar nodded, not wanting to push the boy any further. After all it wasn't his fault that Caspar died.

It was a calm night, both boys deciding to sneak out and have some fun. So they did. They went and egged three houses, before deciding to investigate  an abounded house. That's when the trouble started.

Not even five minutes after they walked into the house, they smelt smoke and gasoline. They both shook it off as nothing and continued deeper into the house. That's when they saw it. The bright yellow flames engulfing the house like it was nothing.

Joe had ran to the door when Caspar pulled him back, signaling to the yellow glow outside the door. Joe turned towards Caspar, tears streaming down his eyes.

Next thing Joe knew he was being pushed out the window. He turned around and looked towards Caspar who was halfway out when a beam from the ceiling fell on top of him. The last thing he heard was "go!"

Now Joe has nightmares almost every night and it has already been almost six months since the incident. They never did find who started the fire and therefore he never has closer.

Caspar watched as he walked down the rest of the stairs and turned towards the kitchen. He wished he could just hug Joe and tell him everything was alright but he couldn't. He would go straight through him.

Caspar contemplated on if he should follow or not but his decision was made when he heard the faint sounds of Joe crying. Making his way to the kitchen, through the walls of course, he walked in to see Joe in the corner of the room. His head on top of his knees. "Joe?"

Joes head shot up when he heard his friends voice. Despite Caspar being a ghost his voice still sounded the same. "Leave me alone Caspar. Don't you have some light to walk into or something. Why are you even here?" Joe didn't even lift his head when talking to him.

Caspar slouched down. He honestly didn't know why he was still here. Maybe it was because his best friend was hurting or maybe it was just because he didn't want to let go of what he always knew.

"I can't get that night out of my head." Caspar looked towards the boy who was now looking at Caspar. "How you basically sacrificed yourself to save me. I don't get why."

Caspar nodded not knowing what to say to the other boy. If he could he, he would do that night all over again just to be able to spend one more day with his best friend.

"I mean really, why would you do this to me? Your basically haunting me and I hate it. Why don't you just leave." Tears were running down Joe's face as he stood up and wiped the tears away.

Caspar flinched when Joe started walking towards him again. "If you want me to leave then I will. I'm sorry. But I'm not sorry about saving you." Joe's face didn't change on bit as he walked closer and closer to Caspar.

Before Joe could reach him, Caspar was gone. Joe stopped when he didn't see his best friend.

Joe was right. When Caspar left, the nightmares stopped but he never forgot what happened. That's why every weekend it made it a point to visit Caspar's grave. Which was where he was heading right after work.

As he walked up to the grave, he noticed something. A Letter addressed to him.

Dear Joe

Don't ask me how I'm writing this but I am. The night you told me to leave, I did. I didn't leave totally though. I watched over you every day making sure you were okay and happy. Call me your guardian angel or something.

Do you remember the night we last spoke, when I was alive. I told you a secret. How I loved someone who was so close to me. I remember you looking at me like I was crazy.

Well I can now fully answer your question. Of why I stayed. I stayed because I love you and always will. I saved you because you deserve to be happy. I would give anything up just for you to be happy.

Which is why I was crying on your wedding day. She's a beautiful girl and I'm glad she treats you right. You son and daughter look just like you! It's amazing isn't it?

I'm glad your happy JoJo. Remember that nickname? I was the only one allowed to call you that. If anyone else did you would ignore them.

The real reason for this letter is to tell you I'm finally leaving. I think my purpose on this earth was to make sure you were happy. Now that you are I can finally leave. I no longer feel like I'm needed and I'm not.

I love you JoJo

Caspar Lee

Joe looked up when he felt something hit his head. There sitting in the tree was his best friend. He hadn't aged on bit and his blue eyes still as bright as anything.

Joe waved goodbye, as did Caspar. And before he knew it, Caspar was gone. To anyone else it would look like he was crazy but to Joe he finally felt peace. Like the missing part in his heart was replaced.

Joe looked down at the letter again and smiled, because one day he would be back with his best friend.
