Dumbstruck

Chapter 1

"Reinigan takes hold of the ball as she dribbles it towards the goal with Foxe trailing right behind her."

I heard the announcer say as I dribbled towards the only defender left. As I got closer, I signaled Blaze, who was at my right, to get into position. Just as the defender was about to take the ball from me, I passed it to Blaze as we maneuvered past the girl then passed it back to me. The look on the girls face was epic!

"And they break through the last defense of France FC as they speed towards the goalie as Hazeldine appears in the scene! We've got the Triple Threat here, folks!" The crowd cheered even louder, if that was possible, making me smile up at them.

Raising my right hand, Blaze and Evie immediately switched places as they ran towards their positions. Passing the ball to Blaze, she took off in a sprint towards the goal and just as she swung her foot, the goalie lunged for it. But the ball hit the bar, a feet away from the goalie, just as we planned and as the ball flew back to Evie, she received it midair and spun around to pass it to me.

As the ball got closer and closer, it felts like everything was going in slow motion and the sound just drifted off into the background. Like the one you see in the movies where the exciting or an amazing even is just about to happen.

That's how it felt for me as I flipped on my back with my hands supporting me in a position like a double-hand-stand as I kicked the ball towards the goal. As I landed perfectly back on my feet, I looked at the goal just in time for the ref to blow the whistle. Signaling that that was the end of the game.

As I stood back up, the crowd went crazy as the screaming went into full volume as they screamed their lungs out and I caught sight of my best friends running towards me with their arms wide open as a huge smile graced their beautifully sweaty faces and engulfed me in a bone crushing hug as the rest of the team followed suit.

"You did it! You did it! We won!" Blaze shouted as she bounced up and down with us in her arms, laughing our heads off.

"You did it, Ty! You did it again!" Evie shouted over our screaming teammates.

"Nooo! It was us. It wasn't just me. We're a team, Ev! We all did it. Teamwork!" I shouted as I fist pumped into the air. "Hey Coach! Come over here you slow poke and join us! We wouldn't have won if it weren't for you training us hard all day and night!" I dragged Coach Vera towards the circle and cheered like there's no tomorrow.

"On three! One! Two! Three! Crusaders United! Woooooh!" We cheered and jumped around as everyone, including the family members as we sang "We Are a Family".

At that moment, I was really happy of the people surrounding me. Not only are they my friends, but they're also my family. A family who train our assess off together in the chilliest weather and would still go skinny dipping 'til our bodies go numb and our noses turn as red as Rudolf's. At that moment, everything was perfect. I could never be happier.

When I got home, I fell asleep with a smile on my face.

"And there's our little fireball!" Dad greeted me with a hug as I walked down the stairs. The first thing I noticed was that my brother, Johan, who was away a lot, was home with a few people talking in the living room. As soon dad let go of him, my brother immediately engulfed me in a bone crushing hug all the while ruffling my messy brown hair.

"Hey there, kiddo!" He said as he spun around with me still in his arms as I laughed at his antics.

"Jaz, you're gonna make me puke!" I told him still laughing.
