Chapter 17

 (Two weeks later)

(Harry's P.O.V.)

I hung around by the clear plexiglass doors of a popular coffee chain, or as most people call it, Starbucks. I bit my lip and gathered together my courage and pulled the door open. But it wouldn't open. I growled, and kept yanking until someone from inside opened it for me. Oh, I was supposed to push it open.

I looked up embarassed, to see the girl I fancied. She pursed her lips tightly together as she pushed the weight of the door on me and stormed off. I think I may or may not have been irritating her for the past couple of days.

I strolled up to the counter to find her at the cash register. She scowled, "Hey! Elise cover for me okay? I'll take over on cleaning!" She yelled shrilly, her usual thick accent strangely high-pitched and clear.

"You lazy ass, you can cover for the cash register!" Elise yelled back from across the shop, her Essex accent shining through. From what I've heard from my multiple visits here, she always tried to hide it, because everyone teased her for having 'the worst accent in Britain'. She mostly talked in an American accent, but at times her masked accent slips through.

The girl at the register, whose name I still haven't catched groaned. I barely know anything about her, but something about her lures me in. Her big brown eyes bored into mine dully.

"Welcome to Starbucks, how may I serve you today?" Her brown eyes stared at me, bored. Her thick voice was flat, a monotone. I leaned onto the counter, and looked up at the drinks menu. It was a really slow day here, so I could take all the time I needed.

Fifteen minutes, I was still pretending to choose. Her face was flat, but I could see the anger shining through her eyes, and her face was a bright red, even with the features of her face flat. "Are you ready yet sir?" She asked me, a light seething in her voice. I tapped my chin thoughtfully.

"I'm not sure if I should get this or that-" I motioned to a section of the menu behind her, "Maybe I should take a little more time to wait." I suggested, only choosing those words to piss her off. She growled unsucessfully, sounding like an damn adorable frog.

"Just order already! It's bad enough that I have to deal with you everyday, and now you go testing my patience!" She hissed under her breath. Her fair cheeks her flushed pink. I reached out and tucked her blonde hair behind her ear, as she froze.

"Yeah, I'll be on my way." I smiled, as she gaped at me in disbelief.

"You little bastard!" She seethed, jumping over the counter. I raised my eyebrow, laughing my arse off, as I turned around to grab the doorhandle and swing it open. Unfortunately, the side of the door hit me squarely in the forehead. I swore and strolled outside.

I kept walking, until I heard feet slapping on the pavement behind me. I turned my head, expecting to see her, but it was April. She was in a tight sports bra and track shorts. Her long hair was tied up in a messy bun. Her pale face was flushed, sweating. But she was still hot that way. Wait, what did I just say? She was panting, and gave me an awkward smile.

"Hey Harry, fancy bumping into you!" She panted, sucking in a large intake of air. Either she was really out of breath or she's changing if she's talking to me that way. Liam's doing just fine, even though if they're not dating. Just friends.

"Hey! Uh, taking a jog out today?" I asked, even though that was the obvious. She rolled her eyes and nodded, putting her hands on her hips. I noticed a long, tight, white scar on her left shoulder. From the bullet at the palace.

"No shit, Sherlock. It's a nice day out-" I chuckled, as this was true, and rare,"And I haven't gotten a proper exercise in a while." She finished, wiping away some sweat off her forehead. She turned her head to look behind her, "Looks like we've got company."

I craned my head to see that it was her. I still don't know her. She was out of her apron, and there was a funky patterned rucksack hanging from her elbow. She was jogging to catch up with me. She narrowed her eyes at me.

"Oh are you the girl that Harry fancies now?" April asked bluntly while my eyes widened and my face turned bright red. Her mouth grew agape, at I don't know, the sight of April or the fact that she now knows I fancy her.

"Um, okay.." She trailed off, her eyes still fixated on April. She seemed to recognize her or something. I burrowed my eyebrows, and tried getting a good look at her. Nope, not familiar. Her accent sounded slightly familiar, but I hear millions of different voices everyday.

"I'll be on my way now, nice seeing you Harry." April smirked, a mischevious glint in her usually cold and steely eyes. She plugged two earbuds in her ears and sprinted off. I turned to the girl.

"May I be of any use to you?" I asked, with a smirk. I licked my lips to moisten them and focused my eyes on her intently. She raised an eyebrow.

"I wanted to tell you how much of a twat you can be, but I think I can't tell you that without a proper meal, don't you think?" She smirked, crossing her arms across her chest. Did I ever say that she had a nice chest? But I couldn't believe my ears, she was asking me out to lunch. Should I be impossible or just say yes?

I nodded, as she grinned, looping her arm through mine. She dragged me down the square to a cafe that I've never even noticed before.

"I have a request to ask of you," I asked her, lowering my spoon into my french onion soup. She raised an eyebrow, waving her fork around to acknowledge her permission, "After all of this time, I still haven't caught your name."

"Oh! I guess you're right. My name is Raine, spelled with a 'e' at the end." She mumbled, her mouth full of greens.

"Is Starbucks your actual job, or-?" I asked, trying to start a conversation. So far what really happened in this restaurant, was that we ordered, got our food, and just before I put any food in my mouth, Raine called me a 'fucking twat'.

She shook her head, "I work at the Sun, but I just work at Starbucks part-time so I can actually get by with my flat and all." I raised an eyebrow. I remembered Grimmy saying he'd get April a job at the Sun, and April later said that she now worked there instead of the Times.

"I have a question, that girl that I was talking with earlier, and you saw, did you recognise her by any chance or were you just gaping at the news she uh said?" I asked, for some reason feeling shame-faced. She scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, she works at the Sun. Grimmy got it for her. And guess what position she has? Editor's assistant! I 've been working for longer than her, and harder than her to get that fucking position, and she swoops in and snags it!" She growled. I raised an eyebrow.

"Well there's always the resumé, yanno. She's worked at the Times before." I drawled, waving my spoon about. Her eyes widened.

"She has? Okay, maybe I'll take back what I said.." She said shamefully, her face red. I laughed.

"Don't think for a minute that this is a date Harry. You're still a fucking twat." She added, while I started howling with laughter.
