Day Two: 8.7.11 (AUS dates & times).
I walked through the court yard, determined to see a glimpse of Truth somewhere. I opened the gate and walked to the bird bath, and thats when I saw Truth sleeking over to his male owner. His black tail was straight up in the air, Truth’s head lowered as his owner stroked his back. I wanted to know some stuff about Truth, so I started calling my own cat. The owner looked up and saw me, I was turning around and looking everywhere to find my cat, who was inside at the time. I looked up and smiled, though my expression was worried. “I don’t suppose you’ve seen a tabby cat?” I asked, he shook his head and I felt a little disappointed my cat hasn’t jumped the fence and gone over yet. He walked over, I don’t know if I had lured him or not.
“My cat, she normally comes to me” I said, biting my bottom lip. The owner was in his early 70’s, his vibe was friendly but I didn’t know if I came across as a worried girl or a pathetic liar. “She’s friends with your cat” I said, though it was only half true.
“Your black and white one... What’s his name?” I asked, the man’s hands were inside his jumper and he was looking down. “Truth” he replied, looking back at me. “Cute! How old is he?” I asked, the man tilted his head back and thought for a few long seconds. “He is about twenty” he replied, my eyes widened.
“Twenty? Wow... That’s really cool!”
“Yeah... He’s on his way. He has some sort of kidney disease” he said. “I’m sorry to hear that” I looked down for a minute, wondering how else to respond. “He was over at my place yesterday, drinking out of my cats bowl” I said.
“He has water here” he said gruffly, I immediatly knew he was being defensive, “I know” I replied quickly. “Don’t let him bite or scratch you, you’ll end up sick” he said, I nodded. “He was purring yesterday.”
The man looked up at me, his expression showed that he was surprised. “Really?” He asked, I nodded and smiled. “I picked him up and put him near the fence line, my cat was getting a little uneasy” I said.“Yeah...” He trailed off, slightly turning towards his house. “Well, you have a nice day” I said, my tone was friendly and he nodded and started towards his house.
“Yeah you have a nice day to girl” I muttered, smiling to myself as I walked back through the court yard.
