Nobody’s Business

“I’m sorry was that your nose in my business?”- Yours Truly.

I wake up the next morning with this strange feeling. I don’t know. I felt like I was sick, but I know it wasn’t that. I just went with it. I grab my coffee and go to work. Everything seemed a little different, everyone was off the streets. Like the whole country fled. Oh that would be bad. When I arrived at my cart I asked one of my customers what was going on, “Pardon me but where is everyone?”

“Didn’t you hear the famous band ‘Nobody’s Business’ is in town? I think they are at some interview across town. Everyone is waiting outside the station. Just to get a glimpse of the guys. I’m surprised you aren’t over there.” She finishes. (It’s hard to stay in character.)

“Well I’m not in to that kind of music. I like metal. Dark metal. It warms my souls.” I smile.

The lady looks scared and frightened. “Au revoir!” She squeaks and runs off.

Later that day, still no sign of people really. There were five guys in hats, sunglasses and jackets. They looked like they were in disguise. Very sketchy, but I then think look who’s talking. I’m dressed like a crazy person too.

They walk around the nearby stands all very polite sounding and the cart workers all look super happy. Like they just met Elvis! One walked over to me and my back was turned. All I hear is “Hello” in the sweetest British accent ever! I turn around and my eyes pop up but I say in my head stay in character. So I stay slouched over and talk in a French accent.

“What? How may I help you?” I return to my magazine.

“How much are your snow globes?” He picks up a few.

“Well they are junk and should be worth nothing, but they are of course very expensive.” I say in my best French accent.

He takes off his sun glasses and my head is still down, trying not to pay attention. He then says, “You’re not that happy are you?”

“Why should I-“ I rise my head and it clicks, it’s the lead singer of Nobody’s Business!

Keep your cool, Lucy. Don’t ask him for his autograph, you will blow your cover!

“Why should I care, I get paid nothing anyway.” I say.

“Ok. Thanks miss. I’ll take one anyway.” He smiles then handing me some money.

Four others guys come over, which I’m guessing are the other band mates, walk over and pull him to the next stand. I over hear the guy at the cart at my right say, “Don’t go near her, she is a crazy girl. Insane! Looney!”

I raise my head from my magazine, snarl then give him a dirty look. I finally stop sweating from seeing one of my favorite music groups. I was so nervous. I thought I was gonna blow my cover.

I look at my watch and remember I only have half day today. HOORAY! I run home so excited that it’s Friday. No more work at that stupid cart for 2 days! Thank God!

As soon as I get home I tell Piper everything. It’s been really icy and snowy lately. Piper told me yesterday that it doesn’t snow that often so it’s strange. She says maybe I brought the snow with me. I run down the alley to my apartment. Only people who see this alley are the few people that live in this little apartment building. I ‘bout slip on some ice and barely make it up the five flights of steps. But I manage to make it up to my apartment with all of my bags and wig still intact.
