The Story of Neptune

Chapter 5

Neptunes POV

I can't sleep. According to my watch it was 3:45 am.
Why the hell did I agree to go on a quest to find the Big Three? I've spent the last 3 years trying to hide from them and now I'm willingly going to search for them.
I need to clear my head.

I get up and walk out of my cabin into the cool, pitch black night.
I walk along the many cabins of the camp and eventually out to the forest.

Why did I volunteer for this? Is it just because this girl I barely know is going?
No that's not it. I mean that's part of it but there's a bigger reason that I didn't even know I had until I stood up.
Redemption.
Finding them could be my chance to redeem myself, and prove to them that I've changed. That it wasn't me up there on Olympus, it was Kronos controlling my mind through years of brainwashing. If I could help save them maybe I could stop running. Julie and I wouldn't have to move around anymore we could actually find that nice place she was talking about, or maybe we could stay here.

I stop when I come across a large pile of rocks. It wasn't the rocks that caught my attention though, it was the girl sitting on top of it.

Could it be?

The girl turns and I catch a glimpse of their face. It's Madeline. Her features glow in the moonlight and it quite literally takes my breath away.

I start walking closer and she notices me,"Mind if I sit with you?" I call up from the bottom.

"By all means." She replies before looking back at sky.

"Can't sleep?" I ask as I climb up to the top to sit with her.

She shakes her head,"I come out here to think sometimes, it's called Zeus' fist so I almost feel close to my Father here."

"My dad and I don't really have the best relationship either. I don't ever really feel close to him." I respond.

"The gods aren't known for being the nurturing types." She says back,"I've never even met him, the closest I've gotten is whenever he turned my sister into a pine tree."

I nod for a second before doing a double take,"Wait I'm sorry what? A pine tree?"

She cracks a smile,"Yeah her name was Thalia, she's up on top of the hill at the front of camp. It was his way making sure her sacrifice wasn't in vain or something."

"Oh.." I pause for a second,"We're you and her close?"

She shakes her head but doesn't elaborate.

"Yeah my siblings and I were never close either." I say back trying to break the silence.

"What other siblings do you have?" She asks.

"It's a long story that I don't really want to get into."

She nods and looks at my face for a few seconds before saying,"Does it have something to do with scar on your eye?"

I shake my head,"No, they had nothing to do with that."

"Well how did you get it?"

I look down,"As a reminder."

"Well I asked how not why but ok, reminder of what?"

I'm silent for a few moments,"I'd rather not talk about it right now."

She looks at me for a little bit in silence but then finally shrugs and says,"Ok, but I'm gonna want to hear that story eventually."

I chuckle a little bit,"And you will."

We sit out there for a few minutes in silence just staring up at the night sky. All the different stars twinkling really created an incredible picture in the sky.

"We should probably head back to camp and try to get some sleep." She says breaking the silence.

"Yeah you're probably right." I say but in reality I wanted to stay with her a little longer.

We walk back to the camp in silence and after awhile we reach her cabin,"Well...this is me." She says.

"Yeah..."I say quietly.

"Well goodnight, Neptune." She says.

"Goodnight Madeline." She then turns and walks into her cabin and I'm left standing alone in the dark.
