Friends or Enemies

The moment I saw him standing in front of me I thought I was going to be sick. He looked uncomfortable to see me which wasn’t surprising considering the circumstances, not that I was about to start feeling sorry for him.

“Um Hey Abi, how are you?” he stuttered not even daring to meet my eyes. He was on his own standing outside the lockers. I guessed he was waiting for me considering his own locker was nowhere near mine and he had no other valid reason to be by mine. 

“Fine thanks you?” I said keeping my head up high and not letting him see how weak and sick I was feeling.

“Yeah look um er.......is it ok if we catch up later?” he wanted to know. Our eyes met for a split second and I felt my heart skip a beat as something clicked between us and then I snapped back to reality. Not wanting to let my guard down I shrugged my shoulders like I wasn’t bothered either way. He looked disappointed at my lack of interest.

“What’s there to talk about?” 

“You know.....us!” he said. "You can come over to mine later and we can talk then I will drop you home afterwards?" he suggested hopefully. I thought about it for a minute before drawing a deep breath and saying, “Fine whatever.” 

He smiled and I could see in his eyes he felt ashamed of himself.

A big part of me wanted to throw my arms around him, kiss him and make everything alright again but I knew it wasn’t as easy as that and there was no way I was going to back down when he was the one in the wrong. Not me.

“Cool so I’ll see you later?” he said leaning in to peck me on the cheek but I moved out of his reach and sauntered off towards the cafeteria. 

“You said what?” Nicola gasped pulling her attention away from her phone that she seemed to be attached to recently.

I rolled my eyes and picked at my cheese and cumcumber sandwiches.

Sandi was busy redoing her make up but she paused to look from me and Nicola thoughtfully.

“What?” I asked her confused.

She arched an eyebrow and sighed, clicking her eyeshadows shut and shoving them back in her bag.

“Maybe we should come with you? You know when you speak to him later.”

“Uh no.” I shook my head.

“Why not?”

“This is something I should do on my own, I will be fine honestly.” 

What harm could it do to just sit and talk. It wasn’t like I was about to run off and get married to him for goodness sake.

“Ok.” Sandi nodded eventually agreeing to my protests.

Anna’s POV 

Si was still blanking me, he refused to return my texts or my calls. It was starting to annoy me so I decided that as soon as school was done I was going over to his house to get this sorted once and for all.

“I am going over to see him later after school.” I told Aimee positively. She looked surprised and unsure at first but then she nodded and said I should go for it. 

So that is what I did. The minute the bell rang I headed straight out leaving Aimee to make her own way without me.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Si screeched at me the minute he realised it was me standing at his front door. I smiled at him and tried to enter the house but he pushed the door in my way so I couldn’t.

“Come on Si, we need to talk.” 

He shook his head at me and frowned like I was some dirty tramp with cooties or something.

“I don’t want to see you or speak to you now go and leave me alone for heavens sake.” he growled angrily. I stepped back in shock. He had never spoken like that to me before so I just stood there frozen to the spot, unsure what to do.

“Go. You have done enough damage so leave me alone.” he warned looking up and down the path nervously.

“Are you expecting somebody?” I guessed following his gaze and looking back at him questioningly.

“I owe you nothing so get lost.” he slammed the door in my face. I couldn’t believe he was acting like this. He was not going to get away with this.

“Anna!” I turned round to see Ben hurtling towards me redfaced and breathless. He stopped right next to me, catching his breath and taking a long sip of his bottled water before giving me the once over.

“Nice to see you again Ben.” I said. He did not return my smile.

“I have a question I want you to answer.” 

“Umm ok, what is it?”

He paused for a few seconds not taking his eyes off me. “Did you only agree to date me to make Si jealous?”

I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. What the hell was I supposed to say to that. More to the point where had he heard that from.

Then it clicked.

Abi.

The cow.

I was going to kill her.

“No Ben, why would I do that to you?” I tried to brush my hand along his muscular arms but he stepped away in disgust.

“Don’t insult me with your lies!” he spat.

“Ben!” I gasped.

“Well? I want the truth.” he shouted.

I had never seen him like this before and it was pretty scary.

“You know I like you, I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you........!” he interrupted me with a loud sarcastic laugh.

“You didn’t want to hurt me yet you were quite happy to sleep with you best friend’s boyfriend?”

“Wh.....at?” I cried tearfully, shocked by his outbursts.

“You disgust me.” he shook his head and carried on running down the road leaving me standing on the edge of the pavement tearful and alone.

What had I done?

Was Si really worth all this hassle.

I was beginning to realise just how much mess I was actually in and I knew it was going to do alot of working before I was anywhere near out of this horrible black hole.
