"Today is the day!" she couldn't contain her excitement. After years of being stuck with people who shunned her, she would finally get a chance to really belong.
Racing down the stairs, she quickly gathered up all of her things. Today everything would change she was sure of it.
"Nothing like a delicious male for breakfast." Sighed the young sitting at the dining room table.
"Well not everything." She mumbled to herself.
Leave it to her sister to ruin a perfectly good morning.
"What was that Branwenn?" asked her eldest sister.
"Oh nothing, so I see you have a new friend over?" Branwenn hastily answered before her sister could question her further.
Brightening at the new topic her sister squealed. "Oh yes this Claire she is a siren and will be singing at our annual school ball. I think she will be just perfect for our schools image, don't you?"
Getting a good look at the girl she did notice the distinctive silvery hair with greenish tints to it that all sirens had. In the world of monsters hair color was an important symbol of their status and power. It was also a good way to let others know just what kind of power they would be dealing with if they got on your bad side.
"She looks like she would fit in just perfect Avyanna, very beautiful and I'm sure she has a voice to match, but about school." Avyanna interrupted her with a squeal of delight, before she could finish.
Turning to Claire, her sister said. "See I told you my little sister has good taste, gets it from me."
With a mischievous gleam in her eye, that Branwenn didn't like at all, Claire smiled and said. "Hmm, is that the only thing she got from her sister I wonder? Tell me Brannwen are you just as good at acquiring scrumptious men as your sister?"
Branwenn blanched. She should have never stopped to talk to her sister, she knew this could be brought up, but in her excitement, it had slipped her mind. Now completely caught off guard, she had no idea how to get out of it.
"Um well, you see." She was so screwed!
With a knowing smile Claire continued. "Oh darling I know it is so hard to find good men nowadays, but even your sister was able to find a nice specimen of feed off of. Maybe you have a mate of some kind?"
"Oh Claire my sister tends to be on the humble side, she doesn't like to brag about her conquests. Right Brannwen?" The steele in my sisters voice told me I better lie quickly or there would be hell to pay. She was all about image.
Just before I could answer the door slammed open and in strolled my second oldest sister, Trinity, also known as trouble, with a capital T.
"Oh please stop with your blabbering Avyanna. Everyone knows our sister is a virgin." Spat Trinity.
"Trinity!" Screeched Avyanna just as Claire gasped in shock.
"A virgin succubus? How is that possible? I was under the impression that succubi needed nourishment just as we sirens do. Was I wrong?"
"Oh no you weren't wrong Claire, our little sister here just seems to think she's better than us." Trinity looked at me smugly and I could feel the heat rising in my face. I couldn't believe my own sister sometimes.
"It has nothing to do with that and you know it!" I screamed.
"Oh really then what does it have to do with, virgin." Taunted Trinity.
"Trinity please stop!" yelled Avyanna. Meanwhile Claire sat back looking highly satisfied with herself. She was really starting to hate her.
"No I want to hear this, so out with it little sister."
Taking a deep breath for courage, Branwenn did her best to sound calm. "Just because I want something more than a bedmate out of a man doesn't mean I think that I am better than you. Is it so wrong to want to wait until I find someone to love first?"
Avyanna looked a little sad at her statement, but Trinity was unaffected. "Look little girl I don't know why you are so hung up on this 'true love' nonsense, but let's get one thing straight, it doesn't exist. The sooner you get this through your thick head, the sooner you can grow up and act like a real succubus, instead of taking pills as a substitute for real nourishment."
Her sister's accuasations stung and Branwenn could feel the tears welling up. She knew how her sister felt, but it still hurt to hear it none the less. So before things got out of hand she took the opportunity to tell them what she had done.
"Maybe your right Trinity, but I'm not going to give up without at least trying. I know myself too well and I just can't do what you and Avyanna do, not without breaking my own heart. This is why I transferred to Yuki Onna high."
"What!"
Before anyone could question her further, she slammed the front door and ran for her new school. As cowardly as it was, she knew trying to argue would only make things worse. They had had the same conversation too many times before, and every time ended in tears and a few broken items. This time however, she refused to cry. Not when she was so close to finally being able to really belong in a school where everyone understood her. She could feel it in her bones. Today was going to change everything.
