Liam sighed for the fifteenth time. He was waiting outside the school, sitting beneath an oak tree, looking for any sign of Branwenn. He still couldn't believe she was interested in him. He thought it would have taken months, but to his absolute delight the object of his adoration seemed to be just as taken with him.
He rubbed at his silver hair absently. It felt itchy and uncomfortable, but Branwenn seemed to love it. He would suffer through much worse if it kept her looking at him the way she did.
The only downfall was the way she was being treated. His hands clenched dangerously as he thought of the ice women and what they had done. He would crush them if they dared go after his beautiful heartsong.
His attention quickly snapped to the beautiful black haired girl strolling from the school's double doors. She was smiling and laughing with her silver haired friend. He sighed once more as his heart constricted, wishing her smile was directed at him.
He quickly shook his head and picked himself up before heading towards them both. He got a few feet away before the girl's noticed him.
Branwenn's face flushed a lovely shade of red and out of the corner of his eye he thought he saw her friend smirk. He couldn't be sure because he couldn't take his eyes off Branwenn.
"Hello ladies, would you like some company on your walk home," he bowed formally earning a soft sigh from both girls. Deftly he hid his own smirk beneath his waves of silver hair before composing himself once more.
Branwenn looked at a loss for words, while Chloe jumped ahead, "Oh, that sounds lovely Liam. Nice to meet you, by the way. However, I have a previous engagement," she pouted playfully before dragging Branwenn's stiff form forward.
"Lucky for you Branwenn is completely free," pushing her closer Chloe peeked around the stunned girl, "and I do mean completely, if you get my drift," the girl gave a wink before skipping away, leaving a gaping Branwenn.
He had to stifle a chuckle at her friend's antics. He didn't want to frighten his heartsong off. She was extremely skittish around him and he had to be careful.
"Your friend seems lovely," he tried.
Shaking her head, Branwenn seemed to regain her composure, "Oh yes, and as subtle as an ogre in a bean patch," she chuckled.
He had to admit seeing he flustered because of him was sort of nice. It was much better than her scorn, but he pushed the depressing thought away.
"Isn't that what best friends are for? You should meet mine, he just loves to give me crap," he rolled his eyes at the memory of Jared. He was the only one who knew of his situation and how he felt about Branwenn. He was supportive, but also never ceased to goad him about it.
"Really," her eyes twinkled with mirth as she looked up at him.
He stared down into her beautiful upturned face and wanted nothing more than to pull her to him an feel the press of her lips to his once more.
"So, everything went well with Chloe I presume," he asked in an attempt to distract himself.
She blinked looking momentarily dazed, "Oh, yes. I really must thank you. If it wasn't for you I would probably still be wallowing in self pity right now," she smiled ruefully.
He stopped walking and reached down to take her hand, "Hey, it's alright. We all have our bad days," He was inordinately pleased when she didn't pull away.
"Thank you, Liam, for everything," she smiled at him as they walked together in comfortable silence.
He gently caressed the back of her hand as they made their way down the street. It wasn't long before he felt her tense up and begin to shake.
