Everything around Iris West seemed to be a blur, the noises - her friends laughing, people talking. It was as if she stood behind a glass window, she could hear the brief muffled noises that surrounded her.
Her friends were standing around a large round table in the school cafeteria, laughing at how short some girl's skirt was, or at a guy who was wearing cheap brown shoes.
"Iris? Iris?"
Iris awoke from her daze and turned to a pale skinned girl who had bright green eyes and long brown hair that was highlighted with blue streaks.
"You okay?"
"Yea, fine" Iris nodded obviously lying. Iris stared down at her feet, watching her toes wiggle through the straps of her sandals.
She wondered how long she had until the lunch bell rang, how long it was until she could return to class and sit through another 90 minutes of chemistry.
Iris was again distracted by a pale skinned hand gripping into hers.
She looked up to see the same girl she spoke to before.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She smiled softly, trying to show her concern.
"Cara, I'm fine" Iris said softly, looking away from her friend.
"I'm going to get ready for chemistry" she said, letting go of Cara's hand and walking quickly into the long corridors.
Once Iris was out of sight, she quickly leaned back on a tall pale green locker. As her head collided with the metal structure she closed her eyes as she wished away all of her problems.
She felt stupid. Iris had never pined over a guy before. Especially a nerd like Barry Allen.
She didn't know what it was about him. His short brown hair spiked up and waved past when he walked. Although she had never gotten close enough to identify the colour of his eyes, she still knew they were beautiful. Everything about him was perfect, except the fact that he didn't know she existed. He always had his head lowered into a superman comic. He only ever looked up when he heard the bell ring.
She tried talking to him a few times, but everytime she reached the table he was sitting at, she would get nervous and walk in the other direction.
"Excuse me" she looked up, banging her head on the locker.
It was Barry, his beautiful eyes staring far into hers, "you're leaning on my locker" he said.
"Oh, sorry" Iris said moving away. She started walking back to the cafeteria, she was so shocked, he finally noticed her, he finally spoke to her, she spoke to him.
Even if it was just a few words, Iris West was determined to talk to Barry again. And maybe one day, he would feel the same way she did.
