Despite what she had hoped, today was no different to any other day.
At lunch, she sat with her friends in the cafeteria while Barry sat at his regular table, head stuck in his new comic book of the day.
While her friends laughed and joked about what some other student was wearing that afternoon, Iris' mind was somewhere else. Should she go up to him and invite him to join them? What would her friends think if she did? Many possible outcomes ran through her mind. A rejection. An acceptance. A look of confusion and judgement. Even a sly chuckle. An none of them seemed to ease her racing head.
Cara looked at Iris with a look of concern. "Hey, what are you looking at West?" she asked. Iris hadn't realised that she had been staring towards the boy's direction. She shook her head out of her daze. "Sorry" she apologised, smiling slightly.
All her friends stared at her, eyes wide, as if expecting her to make a sarcastic comment.
"Can't believe she wore that on a Wednesday!" Iris scoffed nodding in the direction of a girl wearing denim jeans and a neon yellow top.Iris and her group of friends had a certain dress code that they stuck to, and it was somewhat a crime to dress against it.
While her friends laughed and discussed the girls poor taste in clothes, Iris sighed, her eyes moving into the direction of the brown haired boy.
Just like in the library the night before, Iris decided to make a bold step.
She excused herself from the chat, and slowly walked towards Barry. Each step making her heart beat even faster than it already was.Cara watched Iris from the corner of her eye as Iris inched closer to the boy. Wondering what it was she was going to do next.
When she stood in front of Barry she cleared her throat. Barry looked up at her.
"Hi, I'm Iris, we ran into each other yesterday" she smiled lightly.
"Um, yea" Barry replied, returning her smile. There was a short pause, as Iris thought about what she was going to say next. She gulped.
She pointed to her group of friends, "I was just wondering if you wanted to join us"
